If I have a boy I love the name Dylan. I know it can be used as a girls name and heard it sounds trashy. What do you think?

It's a great name for a boy and not trashy at all. Think Bob Dylan, Dylan Thomas the great poet, or the actor Dylan McDermott (gorgeous man).

trashy! what?! that's awful!
Dylan was on our list if we had a boy.

I'm bummed for you that you have people in your life calling your baby names trashy.
I'd love to hear your other boy names. It reminds me of 90210. Not bad, just with a strong 90s connotation. I like it more for a girl name oddly.

@youboots: Right!? Who is telling you that every name you like is trashy?!
We didn't tell ANYONE our favorite names for LO and I am so glad. You don't need to worry what anyone else thinks, promise!

I think Dylan is a perfect fine boy name. It's actually DH's favorite boy name because he loves Bob Dylan.

@Roxy: I love Dylan (both for a boy and even more so for a girl.) I think based on the reactions you've had from those around you, maybe consider keeping your names a secret. It's not fair that what you like is being called "trashy" and it shouldn't affect what you name YOUR child.

Dylan is definitely NOT transhy as a boy's or girl's name. My first thought is it's a boy's name. If you lover it go for it!

@Alba4: Have you ever heard of Dylan's Candy Bar...she's a girl

I don't think its a girl name - although, it can be a girls name and that is okay. My son has a name that is sometimes also a girl name and it doesn't bother me one bit.
Trashy? Not something I remotely think of with the name Dylan.

Trashy? ?
I love it more for a boy, but would never think trashy if used for a girl. These are kids, that's a sad frame of mind.

I associate Dylan more of as a boy name, but names are becoming more and more unisex it seems and definitely not trashy!
DD's name is considered unisex also!

I like Dylan for a boy or girl. Definitely not trashy!

@Roxy: well, from this point forward, ignore her Dylan are Savannah are both mainstream classy names..

@JoJoGirl: Not only that . . . with Dylan in particular, a perfectly non-made-up use of the letter Y.

Not trashy for boy or girl. I would stop sharing any names with MIL. Or tell her my top choices are destineee and billee bob.

@pwnstar: ha ha! "correct use of Y marks one point in the non-trashy column". And yes I agree if your MIL thinks everything is a porn name, the problem is most likely she watches too much porn, not the choice of names..

@Roxy: Not trashy at all. I'd just not share any name considerations with her....then she'll have to deal, and you'll get a name YOU love.

@Roxy: she's rude for not being kind and supportive. IMO. I would not run names past her anymore personally.

As my son is Dillon, I'm going with not trashy. And your MIL sounds like a winner 🙄

I think of it first as a boys name, but would bat an eye to it being used for a girl. Not Trashy ,it's trendy!
