We are moving in a few weeks to a bigger apartment but unlike our current place it is on the second floor instead of ground floor, so we need a solid baby gate to put at the top of the stairs. We currently have the play yard by Northstates and I'm wondering if I should get a gate by them or if you guys recommend a different brand

We've been happy with our extra tall/wide Munchkin gates so far.

we have the dream baby gate and love it! it auto closes which is great. and you can either pressure mount it or screw it in. for top of stairs you should definitely screw them in.

@anbanan15: @banana: Both gates look great. Did you measure your doorway before ordering or did you just assume it would fit?

@Mrsbells: We assumed it would fit. They do sell additional steel extension pieces and with them it fits up to 54"! Ours is used in the doorway to DS's room per our vets recommendations so that our very attached dogs could always see LO and us...doorway is standard.

Baby gate posts are always so tough. I think I've asked about them twice now and never really gotten a lot of suggestions. I'm still looking for a good one for the bottom of our stairs....I wonder if a lot of people just don't use them or don't have need for them (like a lot of HB'ers live in apartments?)

We have a cardinal "stairway special" gate and we like it.

I chose it because I wanted something that mounted to the wall (the pressure mounted gates have a little ridge that you have to step over and since this gate is at the top of our stairs, I thought that might be a little hazardous).
Its expandable (so it fits a number of sized openings) can be mounted at an angle and opens both in and out. Its also made in America.
