My cat has been terribly sick all week and despite numerous tests and antibiotics, the vet hasn't determined what's wrong. Today she has been breathing very heavily so I'm taking her to the emergency vet. I'm so scared, I need her to be ok. She's only six or seven, she is supposed to be here when we have kids. If you have any positive thoughts to spare, please send them to her

Well she's basically in complete liver failure. They quoted us for hospitalizing her and doing diagnostics to figure out why and its in the thousands of dollars. This sucks.

@MrsSCB: did she stop eating? Apparently cat livers can't process fat very well if they go off their foods. Our cat started liver failure as well but it was because he kept throwing up/has a food allergy, so we had a feeding tube installed to force him to take on nutrients. I'm so sorry :(.

Thanks all, I really appreciate it. We decided to go ahead with some of the diagnostics and the vet was so wonderful about bringing the cost down as much as possible. It's probably going to be a crazy waste of money, but we just couldn't bear to not do everything we could.
@StrawberryBee: they did check for that and I thought it might be that, but the ultrasound didn't show the fatty deposits. So they think its either an infection, which could be treated or lymphoma, which probably couldn't

@StrawberryBee: yes, she's been started in antibiotics already just in case. I really hope it's just an infection, the poor little thing just looked so miserable. I felt awful leaving her behind alone but I know it's for her own good.

Thank you all for the positive thoughts, unfortunately our beautiful girl passed away early this morning. We are devastated. We're moving to Texas from NYC in a few weeks and I just can't believe we'll be going without her. Thank you all for the kind words.

@MrsSCB: i'm so sorry for your loss! she was beautiful and obviously very loved. maybe your move will be a good distraction. i know for me coming home after the loss of my cat was really hard because he wasn't there to greet me each day, maybe being in a new space where you aren't used to that experience there will have less reminders. hugs to you & your DH!
