Hi ladies!
Excited for this new poas format.
Quick question for the board - how is timing affected if you ovulate normally for a 28/9 day cycle, but your cycle ends up being 35+ days? In other words, how to manage an apparently super long LP? Mostly wondering if anyone has had similar experiences.
grapefruit / 4144 posts
@MoonMoon: Good morning, MoonMoon! Hopefully, I can respond to your query adequately, if not, feel free to correct me and re-clarify what you are in need of for answers.
Here's my attempt at a response:
A woman's FP is highly variable. Most women ovulate between CD 8 and CD 22, although, it is not unheard of to have a CD 40 ovulation after numerous LH surges OR to have a 28-day anovulatory cycle (with little or no spotting) followed by a CD 11 - 14 ovulation. This would make it appear to be a 39-42 day cycle. As for a lengthened LP, a woman's set LP only diverges from its norm by +/- 2 days. So, consider my average is a 16 day LP (which it is), I have begun my AF after anywhere from a 14 - 18 day LP. That stated, there are many catalysts for odd cycles. Illness, severe stress, surgery/injury, travel, hormonal fluctuations (for a short LP, it would be P4), perimenopause (* d@mn hormones!), and pregnancy (* sometimes, HCG takes a freakish long time to process from the bloodstream into the urine.). In any case, a variable 28/9 day long cycle CAN become a 35 day long and still be normal. Also, and this occurs frequently: If one's ovulation date hasn't been 100% confirmed, one may have actually ovulated days past an extended surge or after multiple surges. This would lend for a longer cycle ... now, add on a +2 day variable LP, and β BAM, a 35-day cycle. Only serum CD 3, 7, and 21 tests would truly afford one an answer ... along with an HPT () once a cycle runs "late," of course.
Keep in mind, nature (and the human body) may be constant and lean towards structural and cyclical patterns, but it is NEVER 100% consistent.
Also, I always have super long LPs. I watch as everyone else's BFP or AF comes, and I am still sitting pretty with temps above my BBT coverline at 16-18 dpo. It is torturous and annoying as all H*ll. Of course, for me, it is not a 1-time deal, rather EVERY. SINGLE. CYCLE. which is super frustrating. My only advice is to keep busy and keep your mind off of it as stress can mess with one's cycle even more (* I loathe knowing that ... and then stressing over it! ππ€£π€£). There isn't much one can do when all tests come up clear.

@Marfi: Oh, no, Marfi! I'm so sorry! Cancelled cycles are the worst ... I have had 2 cancelled TIs and one postponed IUI so I can only imagine how frustrating a cancelled IVF/FET cycle must be. I will update the roster immediately. I hope your next cycle yields a more positive outcome.

Just because I am nerdy π€ and have an expansive interest of fertility, infertility causes, folicular and embryonic maturation, and "nifty" ultrasonography images ... I found an extremely in-depth clinical article [study] that encompasses EVERYTHING one may wish to know about female fertility/infertility:
Enjoy!

1. & 2. There's quite a bit going on this month, the biggest thing being me starting my new job in the end of this week.
I also have an appointment in the middle of the month, where we'll discuss IVF a bit more and start scheduling the next appointments.
In the end of the month I have a choir competition.
3. This is the first cycle my SO in also on medication. He has been on it for only a week and they probably won't make a difference before a few months have passed, but at least it's a start.
I may start with OPKs and/or temping again. I have been on a break from tracking since spring.

@paranundrum: You are back! How did concert practice go? I hope well. Have a great day [training your trainee].
clementine / 811 posts
@Kaohinani: I am! Thank you! I'll probably be around tomorrow too as I'm actually not training my trainee... I was told she'd be here today, but today I found out she'll be starting on Wednesday instead. That's my last day, so I probably won't do much training.
We had two concerts, the first one was not very good, we made some mistakes, but used it as a learning experience. The second concert went surprisingly well, nobody expected that, because all our camps include a party with a not so small amount of alcohol every evening and most of the group wasn't looking so fresh yesterday morning. I drink rarely or not at all and turn in pretty early, so I was fine, but the overall tone is usually a bit...flat. Luckily I have a great small group of friends, who like to go to bed around the same time I do and we were sharing a room, so it went great.
I hope your day will be great too!
grapefruit / 4144 posts
@paranundrum: That is a fantastic update! I am elated that everything went so well. I always enjoy hearing about your practices and concerts. It is probably because I am not involved in anything creative or artistic (* singing, painting, dancing, etc) at the moment and am in awe of those experiences. Also, I have never been part of a huge choral production outside of middle school "inter-MS" chorus or high school musicals, so hearing about your experiences in a large scale chorus is so interesting!

β’ POAS Date: September 3rd.
β’ Baby #: DD 5 years old.
BONUS, For Fun:
(1) Is there anything exciting you'd like to share? 6 years ago, I found out I was pregnant and posted it here first!!! I POAS wait too early and everyone here cheered me on for my first early barely visible line. My daughter is starting Kindergarten in one week and we're ready to try again. I was very lucky last time and not sure I will be this time.
(2) Do you have any exciting plans for the month (* holiday plans, vacations, reunions, anniversaries, or birthdays)? We're going away on a romantic getaway Labor Day week end.
(3) Are you trying anything "different" this TTC cycle? I'm using the Flo app and trying to just have fun.

@LiliBillie: Welcome to our Sept-Dec 2019 POAS board! It is so nice to have you here. My DD was conceived WHILE I was ON BCP and my DS was conceived a few weeks after I stopped using them when DH returned from a deployment. @Kaohinani: Thanks!! Are you in this month? Good luck to you too if you are
grapefruit / 4144 posts
@LiliBillie: Yes, well kind of. Long story made short(er). I had a super early loss last cycle but, at my CD3 check with my RE, my HCG was really low and my uterine lining was already building up. They also found 2 small follicles... Fast forward 4 days: I had a 12-mm and an 18-mm follicle. One RE wanted me to trigger to ensure I ovulated and did not develop a cyst. She said we could, absolutely, go for it. That stated, my usual RE told me not to trigger and to avoid all BD-ing bc a large follicle early could be empty OR may have chromosomal abnormalities. Unfortunately, DH and I had ALREADY DTD so we were already "in the game." I ovulated on CD9 (confirmed by multiple OPKs and then a BBT rise). We DTD 2 more times (CD 8 & CD9) and then again on CD11. So, yes, I am on the board but after so long trying for a sticky BFP, I'm not betting on this being my lucky cycle. Baring any complications, I will have an IUI next cycle. Anyway, thank you so much for wishing me luck this cycle!

@Kaohinani: Gotcha, I wish you luck. It seems like you DTD 3 times like me this cycle so baby dust to both of us

I guess I will stop lurking and jump in...DD1 is 18 months so weβre getting back on this party train to try for #2. It took 3 years of escalating fertility treatments to have the first, so weβre cutting to the chase here and going straight for the big guns. Very lucky to live in MA where fertility treatment is covered! Difficult to say now but transfer will likely be sept 14-18 with Beta/POAS two weeks after.

@Mrs.Panda: Hi, Mrs.Panda! That is so frustrating. Could you have ovulated earlier in you cycle before you began testing ... this is what happened to me the first year we were TTC and I started testing earlier only to find I ovulate super early. Just an idea. If that were the case, the fever would make sense bc there would be a chance you are pregnant. You could also be having: (1) an anovulatory cycle, (2) delayed ovulation due to a culmination of factors, OR (3) a weak surge. With a weak surge, the LH never fully builds to a readable amount (BBP, aka big, bold "positive") on your OPK. You may have ovulated (or are) with a weak surge and the only ways to determine definitive ovulation and dates would be through BBT, U/S to look for an empty follie with a corpus luteum cyst, and bloodwork (E2, P4, and LH). In any case, I hope you find your answer!
@Paranundrum: Thank you so very much for updating the board. I really appreciate it.
Are you excited to be starting your new job this week?
@skiierchck99: Welcome to the board! How exciting that you are able to move straight to a FET! I wish you all the luck in the world that you get your #2 on the first try.

@Kaohinani: I have the night shift on the board.
I am looking forward to it, but it's also a bit scary. I have to step out of my comfort zone and all that. I like my comfort zone. I really hope it's a good change and everything goes well, but at least I know I can crawl back to my old company and they'll take me back.
I have been concentrating on finishing here rather than starting over there, so I won't get as anxious.

Anyone wants to interpret/help me understand some gross symptom? I'm 8DPO, 7 days to possible Period.
I just noticed some EW CM and honestly it's wet and I would like to change my panties. Husband and I didn't do any baby dance last night so i know it's def CM. SORRY FOR TMI! Ironically I had a baby 5-years-ago and don't remember the early symptoms. Thoughts?
grapefruit / 4144 posts
@LiliBillie: I will take a swing at your inquiry.
In the last 3-1/2 years, I have done extensive research on CM, the correlation of mucosal discharge and hormonal shifts, AND how hormonal shifts are represented on a BBT chart.
To begin - "Fertile"-looking patches of cervical mucous can be seen post ovulatory during a hormonal exchange (* shift) between estrogen (specifically E2) and progesterone (specifically P4). There are [primarily] 4 shifts that may produce an increase in vaginal discharge. A couple days post ovulation, one may see a BBT dip (2-4 dpo) which is a fallback rise. During this first post ovulatory shift, P4 falls a bit and E2 rises temporarily which may produce creamy or EWCM. Not all women get this exchange in every cycle. A second dip (@ 5-8 dpo), which is called a corpus luteum dip, may occur. It happens when E2 becomes dominant for a day or 2 due to the corpus luteum cyst which is generated by the ovulation of a follicle. An increase in cervical fluid follows. There are two more times in a cycle in which CM may increase. One is due to implantation (6-12 dpo) which causes an increase in both E2 and P4. That hormonal shift produces leukorrhea, which is a thin, white or clear mucous. Leukorrhea builds and forms a mucous plug to seal the cervical opening during pregnancy. The final hormonal exchange is a pre-menstrual drop. As the corpus luteum begins to disintegrate, P4 levels fall and E2 becomes dominant. LH also increases slightly (which is why some women get a positive OPK in the days before an AF!). One may find she has creamy or wet cervical fluid 1-3 days before she begins her AF. As you can see, many of the shifts can (and do) overlap.
I hope my response was helpful and will help you better interpret your discharge.
cherry / 105 posts
@Kaohinani: What a response! THANK YOU. This is fascinating. Well, I guess there is absolutly no way to know but I'm hoping based on your research that it is the one due to implantation (6-12 dpo) since i'm at 8DPO

It's my last day!
I made cake and I have had a lot of visitors and they brought me flowers and gifts and it feels like it's my birthday. I should change jobs more often.
I have a day off tomorrow and I plan on sleeping in and doing laundry. On Friday I'll start my new adventure.
