Does anyone have poms in the baby's nursery that you made yourself? I am fairly crafty and made a lot of stuff for my wedding.
I want to put a bunch of coral, peach, pink and tan poms in the corner of LO's room. I thought I would make them initially, but after shelling out so much money to buy our place I am on a budget. I am now wondering if it isn't just more cost effective to buy some. They cost about 4 dollars each on Etsy or 5 for 17.50.
Did you make or buy your poms? WWYD?

It might be easier to buy through Etsy. I can buy color tissue paper at my local party store for $2.50 for 20 sheets in a single color. For 4 colors that would be $10 (assuming they have the colors you want for the nursery). Each pom requires between 8-10 sheets of tissue paper. While it is cheaper to buy the supplies, I think you may run into issues finding the colors you want.

Do you have a party supply store in your area? Our local party supply warehouse has tons of pom poms in all sorts of colors.
I've made the pom poms before. Its not hard, but time consuming. There is a local packaging store (boxes, wrapping paper, tissue paper, etc) and they sell tissue paper in every shade you can think of!

@yin: I think you may be right about running into issues with the colours I want.
@Bluebonnet: I am in NYC, and cant think of where to get tissue in multiple shades. There is a party city but they don't have the colours I want.

@plantains: Locally, you can try Paper Presentation or Jam Paper. Although I'm sure there might be some places online with good shipping where you can buy--you just wouldn't see the color in person.
You could check out those stores and their paper selection and then calculate whether you should make or buy. Factor in the cost of your hard labor in the decision, too!

@plantains: If you are in NYC, there must be another party supply store (other than Party City) or a gift wrap/packaging store that sells multiple colors of tissue paper.
Wish I could be more helpful, but I'm certain there must be a place.

@mrsjazz: Oooh, I forgot about Paper Presentation. I lived there when I was wedding planning. Maybe I'll swing by there and see what they have to offer. I have never tried Jam Paper, I'll check it out.
@Bluebonnet: there probably is somewhere in the boonies, but like everything else in New York, there is just so much fluff to wade through it becaomes really tough to track things down.
If I was making in bulk for a wedding, I would 100 percent DIY. It would be by far the cheapest option. I'm just not to sure about making 8-10.

Oooh, Paper Presentation has the tissue, but it is 5.75 for a pack with 25 sheets. Maybe I'll have to stick to making 9 poms out of three colours? After purchasing the floral wore and the monofilament for hanging, I am probably looking at around $30 to make em vs $40-45 when you include shipping to buy them.

@grizz: Hmm, I might buy. I have just realised of course that even if i buy them they will arrive flat and I will have to fluff them myself so it might not be worth it as it will still be a good amount of work.

We made a bunch for our wedding... They were kind of time consuming and a pain in the butt to make but I'd say for as many as we made, it was a better deal.
We bought 2 colors: white and eggplant and have a ton leftover... so I use it for gift bags all the time. Multi-use :))

@Ash: I checked out that website and was thinking of ordering from there. It is just so hard not seeing the colours in person. I can't really tell if stuff is the right colour or not. Serves me right for wanting coral!

Arrived flat with fishing line to hang! I fluffed and they are perfect! I was a little mad when they arrived because I was like um....I so could have made these but it was worth the $25!

@Ash: It doesn't look like they stock Coral, so it is a question of me trying to figure out what colour comes closest.

I would make them. Tissue paper is super cheap and you can fluff them while you watch TV. I make them all the time for office parties

I think I have decided to just make em. I just need to hunt down my preferred colours of tissue paper, get some wine and put Brothers & Sisters on.

I made a ton of those for my wedding! It doesn't take long, but if Etsy has the colors you want I think you should get them there. The cost of supplies + your time would probably be about the same.

I made a huge mobile out of them for LO's nursery (7 or 8 pomd of various sizes) and I spent $9 for everything, including the ribbon they are hanging from. It is way cheaper to make them!!
