We are an outdoor lake/beach family. LO is due in May and I don't have a one piece swimsuit or tankini (and am under no delusion that I'll be wearing a bikini this summer....) I'm thinking of getting a tankini (since I plan to BF expect I'll need a bigger top).....
Where did you get your post-partum-friendly bathing suit?

I found a tankini for the early part of pregnancy at Costco! Haha. The only problem was that I had to buy a large to accommodate for my boobs and belly... and the large bottom was way too big. Luckily it was black and white so I just interchanged another black bottom I had.
J Crew has some cute tankinis usually (last season they had a "swing" top that had a loose waist section, kind of like a babydoll top) and you can get separates so your bottom will actually fit.
I've also seen some really cute swim dresses on rue la la. I know that's soooo old lady but I'm seriously considering it.

I think I'll hold off and see what fits post partum before going out and buying. IF need be I think I'll probably get a tankini from Target.

@regberadaisy: It's on my brain because we spend a lot of time at DH's lakehouse and have a vacation planned there as well as a beach vacation in August with my family. There are some cute ones at Old Navy....but, again, not sure that those sizes are "mom" friendly! Stupid to worry about, but I also worry that by the time I figure out my sizing post-birth, there will be slim pickin's!

I like Lands End tankini's. The quality is great. One of their suits will typically last me one summer of swimming in a chlorinated pool and hanging outside to dry (for often too long!). The tankinis are also often sold as seperates like J Crew.

@winniebee: well I'd normally get a large if it's small medium large for the top... the front rode up a little to show a little of the baby bump. haha. But I'd definitely order the size for what your boobs are now, plus maybe a cup size! My boobs did not change postpartum but I think most womens' do.
I am totally now scouring the sale section of jcrew because it's an extra 30% off sale items... ahhhhhhhh

@mrs. wagon: I just saw that the Jcrew tankinis have a "D Cup" option for all sizes. Interrrresting. Right now, I'm a 34C. I can't imagine I'll really be a D Cup come summer though. Decisions decisions.

@winniebee: yes this is why I love looking at jcrew for bathing suits. I am a DD so regular bathing suits are always showing my cleave and I don't like it!!
I would not be surprised if you went up to a D cup at all! And the extra coverage might not be a bad idea if you are just lounging on the beach and need nursing pads in case of leakage

@winniebee: I was pinning a bunch of ruched swimsuits right before I gave birth. I got soo many stretch marks that I know I'll never be in a bikini again, so I pinned all one pieces. But found some super cute ones.

@winniebee: I went from a 34c pre-pregnancy to a 38 DD/E post partum.... just to give you an idea of how much you could go up.
Let me know if you find something you like. I need to wear a bathing suit in just a couple of months so I'm watching this thread to get ideas for myself. I thought I would lose some weight, but I still have 20 lbs to lose to get back to pre-baby. (I'll just say that's all in my boobs now - haha)

I'd also look at something with a print, much more forgiving than just a solid color! I have a 16 month old and my stretch marks are all faded, but I'd still not be comfortable in a bikini!

6.5 months PP we went to Florida and I was unable to properly fit into a "regular" bathing suit so I just went and bought a cute maternity tankini.

@winniebee: I would rather go for a tankini that covered my belly than a one piece. That way I would have the option to lift my top up to tan my belly if I wanted (in a private place of course). Maybe with a LO a tankini would be easier too. I love the first floral/flowy one that @chopsuey posted! Perfect for mama belly!
I totally feel your pain because we have a beach house too and I usually spend a lot of time in a swim suit on the boat. Thinking that's NOT gonna happen this year.

I got a great regular suit at the end of last season from Lands End one size up that sucks the belly in well and has cute ruching on the outside to hide anything else that could show.
