I wouldn't go as far as saying bad idea, but it's certaonly not harmless. We are all responsible for the good or bad energy we put out.

This reminds me of the people at Walmart sites and while its funny its definitely not nice.

Well the honest truth is there is very little trouble your friend can get in from doing that.

However, I think it's a rather low thing to do. How would she feel if she saw herself on someone else's Facebook with an insult attached?

This sounds really mean. I don't like it.

Personally, I would feel icky about it. Karma is a bitch.

@MsLipGloss: Just because you can try and get damages for that doesn't mean you will. One crappy comment on a social media site about you is a very small reason to waste a lot of time and money in court. I doubt most would even bother, and if they did it's unlikely they would end up gaining much if anything. Not to mention she could just claim her little nephew who is a minor used her laptop and posted the image to her Facebook. There is no way to prove she herself actually posted it.

@pui: It wouldn't matter to me what damages I recovered . . . regardless of whether or not I would ultimately recover, it would be worth it to me to teach her a lesson in humility and civility. People need to understand consequences, which she clearly would after discovery and depositions.

ETA: Through that process, she would feel as naked and exposed as the person she tweeted/posted about.

Typically, I am a live and let live gal . . . but this cowardly, vicious behavior is repugnant!

@MsLipGloss: Going to court is a huge hassle and takes a lot more time and money than I think most realize. As someone who's been there twice (business related) trust me when I say I avoid it as much as possible. There are plenty of people who have screwed us over I wish I could teach a lesson in consequences through the court system, but unless they've done enough damage that it's worth it, we just can't bother. Especially since even if I win in court it doesn't guarantee I'll be able to collect the damages they owe me.

A snarky comment about me on a social media site is definitely not enough to make me go through all that trouble. The most I would do is get Facebook to take it down.

Actually, @Happygal if you are uncomfortable with these posts your friend is making, you could always report them to Facebook.

I have friends who do that too... and while I find it wrong to upload a strangers photo, I also find it very low and judemental.

I think it's a bad idea. Not for whatever consequences may or may not come of it, but just for the sake of humanity. Even sites like 'people of Wal Mart' make me sad. I totally laugh and am entertained when I see pictures like that, but then later I feel bad, because we're all people who deserve respect and privacy.

@Fronkinzankinsbride: She could claim she was hacked. Someone sat outside her house and used her network to post the picture on to her Facebook just to be a crap disturber. Stranger things have happened. The point is you can't conclusively prove that she actually posted the image.

It'd be great if we could hold everyone responsible for posting some snarky thing to the internet, but it is not feasible.

Same with GPS. That just proves a device was used at a certain location. Not who was using it.

If anyone besides herself ever used the computer, you can't prove she put the files there. And even if the picture was on her harddrive, doesn't prove she ever posted it.

Very circumstantial evidence.

Of course a judge could still rule against based on this evidence, but it is weak evidence.

There isn't enough nice in the world these days... It just bothers me that so many people in this world are so judgemental (myself included). I appreciate humor, but not at the expense of someone.

@MsLipGloss: It's a little scary that someone could be held accountable for something based on such little evidence, but yeah of course it could happen.

Still, getting the IP and GPS records from these social media sites, launching a huge investigation where harddrives are seized and all this... still so much trouble and stress over a single snarky comment. I have better ways to spend my time.

Honestly, those are the kind of people I do not want to socialize with! I think we've all had our moments where we see someting and internally, we think "oh, that is strange, it could be done better this way." It is one thing to think it to yourself and another to post it for all of the world to see.

It's just disgusting.

I think sometimes it can be funny and I laugh, but I prefer it to be an anonymous-style photo aka not including their face. ESPECIALLY not kids. Otherwise I feel like it crosses a line. I always wonder what if I saw one of my friends post a pic like this making fun of someone... and it was someone I knew. I for sure would say something to the poster, and maybe make the person aware too. So while they may give me a giggle sometimes, overall I just feel uncomfortable with them.
