If she's a stubborn wee thing then chances are that the more you push her, the more stubborn she'll get!

I'm not any expert (we're still "refining" using the potty three months into the process!) but could could you try working the potty in to your routine? Maybe just ask her to sit on it before breakfast and before the bath? That way it just becomes part of her daily routine but she's still practising and making progress.

Unless there is some pressing need to have her potty trained, I'd give it all a break for a little longer. Put away the prizes, stop reading potty stories, etc. if she asks why, tell her you can tell she's not ready to be a big girl yet, and those things are for big girls. Not in a degrading way, just very matter of fact, as if it's her choice and you don't care either way. If she continues to be stubborn you can offhandedly comment about things that only potty trained kids can do (go to preschool, be an explorer like Dora, take a drop-off swimming class, etc.)

That is what worked for us - we thought we had DD potty trained around this age - she was mostly going in the potty, although we had to be vigilant about reminders. But a few weeks in, she started having more accidents (and not caring), and even having what seemed like intentional accidents or what I called "revenge pee" incidents when she wasn't getting her way. Anyhow, we put her back in diapers, telling her clearly she wasn't ready, then not making much more comments other than the occasional "you have to use the potty to..." Mentioned above. We waited til she was about 2 yrs 6 months or so and then switched to undies again. This time around we did no rewards other than offer one episode of TV for a poo in the potty. About 2 months later and we haven't had a single poo accident, only the tiniest trickles of pee accidents, and she basically goes in, does her thing, and washed hands without help.

Sorry for the novel - the point is, I think the first time, she just wasn't ready, and candy/stickers weren't enough for long term motivation. Perhaps your DD also just needs a few more months to be ready.

I'm in the "don't push it camp." All kids will get it eventually.

my 28 mo son has been the same way. he was super interested in it and doing great for like 2-3 days. and has since had spotty interest. he'll still ask to go every once in a while, but most of the time refuses. i'm not going to push it because i don't want him to push back on us or feel like we're forcing him. it's definitely slow going...

My DD went through something like this. We just stopped until she asked us to use the potty again. I think it was when we were in TJMaxx and she found some frozen underwear I said to her these are for little girls who use the potty. She said she wanted to wear them, so we potty trained again. She started to hold her pee and told us when she wanted to go and we put her on the toilet. We had her pick out her toilet seat for each house (nanny, grandparents) and she loved it. We would also ask her if she wanted underwear or diapers and she would tell us and if she said diapers we went bat and eye. She eventually said diapers are for babies and now only wants underwear. She is not 100% night trained and when she has an accident I tell her its okay it happens because you're still learning and she gives me a hug and changes her clothes.

Did something happen after her successful days? Anything change?

Argh! That's why I kept saying over and over that the 3 day thing is a hype! We tried it with my son and we had a very similar setback. It all depends on if your LO is very sensitive. You didn't know what happened inside her and she didn't know how to communicate with you and that 3 day thing is a huge pressure because there was no break, and it is mentally tiring to kept remembering I need to pee in the potty when all along it was ok to just pee and poop whenever it comes for the past 2 years. I know how to do it doesn't mean that I am not exhausted to remember to go to the bathroom when I felt the urge, because I wasn't required to do that for the past 2 years until suddenly, I am required to do it now.

I am so sorry you are going through this - how old is your LO? If she is not even anywhere close to 3 yet, I seriously wouldn't sweat it at the moment.

What worked for us was a period of practice time. Say I know for sure LO had peed, or I had just put him on the potty and he peed/pooped and I know for a fact he will remain dry for at least an hour. There I would give him an underwear to wear, and I explained to him it is important to remain clean and dry because it is so yucky to pee on ourselves. And if he does need to go, he need to let me know and we will go at the potty. If he remained clean and dry for an hour, we'd celebrate. Using the toilet wasn't that big of a concern. I give it 1 hour a day, or really every other day or whenever I think it was a good time to try. Point is it didn't have to be every day to begin with. When we have some success + pee/poop in the potty, I gradually increase the underwear time to 2 hours, 3 hours....etc. Very soon we are all underwear.

Another thing is we does celebrate with stickers, but food is also a big motivation. If my LO used the potty to pee he gets half a cracker + a regular sticker. If he poops in the potty he gets a full cracker + a star sticker. We had other issues too with potty training (we had issues with public bathroom for a very painfully long time), and our pediatrician suggested us that if he goes to the potty in a public bathroom, we should give him a small gift from dollar shop (I let him pick a toy from a treasure bag). When he becomes OK with the public bathroom then we can wean off the toys. It was a HUGE success and it really turned the ship around. So maybe, if your LO sits on the potty she gets half a cracker, and if she pees in the potty she gets a cracker and a toy, and if she poops in the potty she gets 2 crackers and a toy? I don't know, you gotta figure out the "reward" system but it can work. Good luck to you!

ETA: One thing that our pediatrician did mention is, no matter what you do, do NOT make it a big deal and do not stress her out. She can sense that "mommy wants me to do something but I can't do it" and it may back fire. Seriously. It will happen so don't worry and good luck to you!
