I've never used a power drill before, but should bite the bullet and get one so I can actually install and fix things in our house. Any recommendations for basic power drills for a beginner (who is a little scared of using a drill)?

If you're just doing small jobs not really requiring drilling, but just screw/unscrewing, they have cordless screw drivers that would be easy to use: http://www.amazon.com/Black-Decker-AS6NG-Alkaline-Screwdriver/dp/B004HY3APW/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1399210647&sr=8-3&keywords=cordless+screwdriver
If you need a bit more, then you could go with a more standard power drill: http://www.amazon.com/Black-Decker-LDX112C-12-Volt-Lithium-Ion/dp/B004443WVW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1399210604&sr=8-1&keywords=battery+power+drill and just keep the setting low, if it's not enough power, it'll kick and catch, then you just know you need to turn it up a bit more.
Personally, I dont like cordless battery power cause I hate dealing with a battery and it losing charge. Definitely have a back up battery charged up on hand, but dont do a corded drill either. Those are scary powerful and alot easier to do damage with.

Can't go wrong with a black and decker. It's what we use around the house. Lowes is very helpful!

I love the DeWalt cordless drill that we have. DeWalt is a good brand. So is Makita and Bosch.

Definitely get cordless. You'll inevitably need the drill just far enough from an outlet and then have to go find an extension cord. I'd also recommend getting a hammer drill. They're much more powerful.

@purplepumps: @oliviabolivia: @leialou: Thanks! I was thinking about getting cordless because our outlets are in inconvenient places in the house.
@blackbird: I had been planning on buying it online, but maybe going into a Lowe's would be helpful for recommendations. I just hate feeling like I don't know what I'm talking about in-person. I don't mind on HB!
This may be a silly question, but do I need to wear goggles/protective eye wear?
ETA: Another silly question - do I need to buy drill bits separately? Or do they usually come with drills?

We love our dewalt one. You don't need eye wear unless you are drilling with a large drill bit (circumference) or maybe an odd material like brick I might throw on some cheap sunglasses. I can't remember if ours came with any bits or not. Our black and Decker electric screw driver came with a few screw driver heads. It will be clearly marked on the box. We bought a basic set that covers most of our needs for maybe $20 and then have purchased special ones as needed.

Oh and definitely go in and ask, they are super helpful and can show you the difference between the million choices.
