LO just turned 2 and she was still going fairly strong nursing when I first found out I was pregnant (I'm about 22 weeks now). It didn't bother me too much at first, except for nursing at night, that we ended over a couple weeks because I was just too tired, though I didn't notice a big dip in supply until after the first trimester and it's been going down pretty quickly since then. It also started to hurt more when I nursed and I just felt overall irritated with it, which I hadn't before, we had a really great nursing relationship (though she was a bit addicted).

At this point I feel like she's 2 and I'm ready to be done for a few months before baby comes, she has shown a lot less interest since my supply decreased and when I explained that baby is eating the milk now she seemed to understand and when she asks to nurse she then reminds herself of baby and pats my belly and usually then does something else instead. She only nurses a couple times a week now and only for a minute or two so I think we're about done.

@runsyellowlites: Good for you on the tandem nursing, how old is your LO?

I think I would have considered it if LO was younger but I found it a bit overwhelming towards the end dealing with the personality of a toddler who really wants boobie snacks so that sealed the deal for me. Figured if I was overwhelmed with her I'd be super overwhelmed when there was an infant demanding them all the time too.

But I am, sadly, not pregnant or breastfeeding and it most likely wont ever happen for me, so I'll bow out now.

Just wanted to express my surprise and excitement!

I'm 8 weeks pregnant and still breastfeeding my 12 month old three times per day (trying to get it down to twice per day but we're not quite there yet). I haven't noticed a change in supply at all, nor have my boobs felt any fuller, but maybe that's coming?!

I'm trying to wean and hope to be done BF'ing by the end of July so I can have a bit of a break before the next LO arrives!

I should also add that I'm still night nursing and these days, nursing HURTS!!! My eyes tear up each time she latches. My nipples are just so sensitive. I keep hoping the pain will stop....

I BF LO until I was 10 weeks. I'm 13 weeks now and he's almost 11 months. I'd been noticing my supply dropping (less swallowing, LO getting hungrier sooner, let down taking longer) since I was 7 weeks, but we stuck it out until 10 weeks. We took a long haul flight (22 hours total, incl layovers) then and it totally killed my supply. We're doing full formula for now, but I'm hoping we'll be able to pick something back up when the nipple sensitivity eases up. holy cow, i would have tears in my eyes during each and every feeding

did anyone else experience breastfeeding agitation? i think i had it really bad, from the second he latched on all i could think about was getting him off me. sometimes i would be SO angry the whole time he was eating, only for it to go away the second he was done. i was expecting something, but i didn't think it would be this all consuming. it was BAD. it's part of the reason i was so willing to move to formula.

hopefully that wasn't too debbie downer for everyone! just sharing my experience so far! hope everyone else's experience is better than mine!!

@runsyellowlites: i tried oatmeal and power pumping, and it did nothing.

How's it going for everyone?

At my OB appointment on Wednesday she tried to tell me I was going to have to stop breastfeeding or it'll kick me into pre-term labor around week 22 to 24. I just smiled and nodded because I didn't feel like arguing, lol. W looked like he was trying to burn her soul though, hahaha.

Between that and everyone asking me when I'm gonna stop I got motivated to blog about it! I get so annoyed when people tell me I'm endangering my unborn child by still breastfeeding.

@runsyellowlites: One of DH's cousins posted on my wall on Facebook, "I just noticed you said you're still breastfeeding. I thought I should warn you, if you don't stop you're going to miscarry." I almost lost it. I almost said some realllllly horrible things (her son was so obese before he was potty trained that he had to wear adult diapers and I almost made a snarky comment about how if she had breastfed him longer that wouldn't have been an issue). But I just linked her to some resources that basically say that's a load of crap.

What scares me is she's a nurse...like she should know better. And she should realize I wouldn't do something that would endanger my pregnancy without doing adequate research first.

@regberadaisy: Yeah, poor DH had to listen to me go on about it for a while, lol.

@chopsuey119: my "rule of thumb" is until they tell me I'm not healthy enough to have sex, I'll continue to nurse. If I HAD to stop before BabyDeux is born I would still try to get him to start again when the new baby gets here. I would really like to continue tonurse until he's 2 (April 1st next year... I'm due with BabyDeux at the end of January)

FWIW when I was pregnant with number two and my OB AND the nurse from the health clinic both told me to stop nursing, I was just like, "mmm hmmm." Maybe I took the easy way out but like so many other things, it was easier to just nod and smile and do whatever the heck I wanted. If I had been high risk or whatever I would have taken them more into account!!

@Maysprout: well you wouldn't starve the baby, you would starve yourself first. Order of importance (in your body's "eye" ) is unborn child first, breastmilk second, you third.

I think that is a very important point. I hope everyone doesn't think tandem nursing is OK for everyone! In some scenarios it just isn't smart or safe for the mother and pregnancy!
