does anyone have a gate at the top of their stairs that's pressure mounted, not drilled in?
I would like to put a gate at the top of the stairs so LO can go between her room and the nursery on the occasion that I'd be up there (nursing, bathtimes, etc). we're more often downstairs.
however, we are renting in a really, really old house with weird plaster and drilling into the wall really wouldn't be any more secure than pressure mounting. but I don't know if that's even okay to do?

I know that it's not recommended. I guess because it isn't as secure if a LO were to lean or push on it. We bought a gate to wall mount but it's such a pita!!! We haven't done it yet.

It isn't secure!
We used pressure mounted gates to block off our kitchen, and Chloe figured out how to push them off!

We can't walk mount in our rented home due to funky plaster walls and weird moulding.
I put the gate in the hall.

@rachiecakes: we have one in her doorway, which is to the side of the stairs. The nursery is at the top of the stairs 
agh. I guess there's really no way to do it.

I use the munchkin pressure mounted one at the top of our stairs. We have beautiful, 1920s original railings that I refused to drill into. We have had our gate for 2.5 + years (multiple kids) and the kids lean and sometimes climb on it and we have never had any issues.

Could something like this fit and you have it go really wide around the top of the stairs?
That way if it fails then it still won't fit to fall down the stairs.

We have one and it seems secure. My LO has never been able to even wiggle it.

We didn't have an option, as the top of our stairs only has sheet rock. Anything we drilled in just came out. So we have it pressure-mounted. LO is pretty good about not hanging/pushing, but it's never budged.

We use a pressure mounted one to block the stairs entrance at the bottom and I like it. It feels secure and strong. I forgot the brand but we got it at Buy Buy Baby.

We had one at the top of our stairs but mounted it about a metre back on the landing. We took it down at around 15 months when we listed our house and felt that LO could negotiate the stairs safely.

I know it's not recommended, but we have this one (http://m.toysrus.ca/skava/static/product.html?type=TRU_product_non_us&url=%2Fproduct%2Findex.jsp%3FproductId%3D12273057&domain=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.toysrus.ca) and have it pressure mounted. I've put all my weight against it (because I was trying to get it off one time) and it doesn't budge.

We had one forever because my room and the living room are upstairs with the only "hallway" being a staircase from the living room. It isn't recommended but it was way better than the alternative. She leaned on it occasionally and it didn't move.
