I think they should have gone through proper channels like an agency and hired someone legit.

I worked for an agency in college that did full-time, live-in nannies.

Well yeah, I wouldn't want to move in the heat or rain either.

All jokes aside, is she considered a squatter? Does she have to be properly evicted?

Ummm is it legal to pick her up, dump her out on the curb, and change the locks?

But hey, when you hire sketchy people-did they even google her? It seems so obvious in hindsight-I can't help but laugh at the ridiculousness

@ShootingStar: The food part is crazy. I read that they did do a background check. (ETA: Now it has changed that she called references but did not do a credit check.) I read this was her first nanny related case but she's used the legal system a lot.

@bluestriped bee: I read that this morning! crazy. Two sides to every story... but it sounds like crazy hired crazy and now crazy can't get rid of crazy and crazy can't find another place to live.

It is IMPOSSIBLE to evict someone in California!! It takes FOREVER! My friend's dad let a guy stay in his house for a little while, and then the dad died. The "friend" refused to leave, but instead invited others to come in. The estate had to keep paying water and gas as this guy and his new roommates COOKED METH and did drugs in the house!!! They destroyed it! When she finally got them evicted, she had to have a hazmat crew come clean. The whole thing was a disaster.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: good point about holidays! It sounds like this nanny was just looking for the next family to scam and found one. Unfortunate!

I hope this mom decides to fight for a change in the law. She should get together with my friend since they both have compelling stories. Right now, all the rights are with the tenant, and the homeowner/landlord has none in California! This case just highlights that!
