We had one in both our current and our previous homes (there when we moved in) and we didn't like them. We left the last one installed but quit refilling it (it was a pain to refill) and actually took this one out shortly after moving in. In our experience, they get in the way and at least the models we had (mid-high end kitchens) were a pain to use - didn't depress well or give out the right amount of soap.

@peachykeen: thanks! i've never had one and the only one I've used is at MILs house. It also doesnt depress properly so theres always issues with it but I had thought it might just be due to age since its an older kitchen

The only time I don't like ours is when our 3 y/o tries to get soap by herself ... she can reach the spout from her toddler stand, but not really the part you're supposed to press - I'm always worried she's going to break it off by pressing the nozzle part.

We have one that we keep filled with hand soap on our kitchen sink, we hated it because it was such a pain to refill, until I found this tube thing you can buy to use a big refill size bottle of hand soap! Now we only need to change the bottle every few months and its way less of a pain.

I regularly spec the Saniwa one.
It's refillable from above and works well.

We have one built in for dish soap and then one on the counter for hand. I like built in so that the surface isn't so cluttered. We refill ours from above (just need to be careful not to overflow)

I researched yesterday about a hack where you can use a tube and pipe it directly into a large container of liquid soap you keep under the sink. The problem with mine is that it's obscured by pipes and the bottle itself is small, so rather than deal with refilling twice a week, I decided to see if i could find a hack that works.

I love ours. It refills from the top and dispenses wonderfully. I don't like a lot of extra clutter around the sink that can be knocked over, like an extra soap dispenser. The trick to refilling ours is to not let the stream of soap touch the side of the mouth of the dispenser. It used to be frustrating to fill until I figured that out, now it takes a minute and is super easy.

I love the one that came with our faucet. It works great and we can refill it from the top so we don't have to go under the sink to refill it!

@mediagirl: thanks! i'm thinking that since this is a new home it will have a top filling dispenser. i'll ask to be sure

I'm not really a fan. Ours is newish, but refills from underneath. I emptied it when we moved in and have never used it. I wouldn't install one in any area where humidity was an issue.
My main concern is that in a humid climate, the plastic soap dispensers end up moldy inside eventually. This happens to every disposable soap dispenser I've had (but at least I can see the mold and clean it/recycle the container...), and I don't trust the sink-mounted one to not grow mold too. Under the sink seems like the perfect environment for mold.

@HappyBaker: That's brilliant!
We have one and I love it, mostly because I don't love extra 'stuff' on my counters.
