My LO is a water baby, which I love. However, he hates wearing a life jacket or sitting in his float - the boy wants to roam free!
I don't feel he has enough control to just wear water wings and not take in a ton of water. I saw a kid at the pool wearing puddle jumpers - would it work for a kid his age? He likes to lay on his tummy if I hold him and kick his legs.

LO got her puddle jumper at 1.5. It was big on her though and really works much better now. Actually last summer at 2.5 it was a ton better.

DD got hers at about 1.5. We still have to be right there with her, but she does really well with it

My LO is 19 months and 30 lbs and it works well for her. We've got some friends that have an 18 month old who is ~26 lbs and they use it. It seems to work for her, but technically the minimum rated weight is 30 lbs.

LO wore it last summer at 15lbs, around 22lbs. She still fits it this summer at 28.5lbs.

It didn't work well for us until this year. LO 1 is almost 3.5 and 30 lbs.

I'd try it! My cousin teaches swim lessons and last year when my son was 10 months, 20 lbs she suggested it. It worked it's not like you'll be far from him in the water. I'd say it'll work way better this year.

We tried them with my daughter and she did great, though she's technically under the weight. I normally just have her in water wings. It took her a couple visits to figure out how to sway her legs so she didn't tip and spit out water if kids splashed, but she does great now I'm them, she's 19 months.

Check out the Konfidence suits - my daughter has used one of those since about 20 months and has done really well with it. We had the 1-2 years size and it still fits her at 3 years, 28 lbs.

The only ones I can find are 30+ lbs, but I'd love to get one for my daughter! She hates being contained in the water. I think if you're going to be right there anyway, it's a great way to let him explore the water!

I tried it last summer and for some reason we didn't have any luck with it, but this summer, it's a go. My son is about 40 pounds and doesn't have an ounce of fat on him, so he's a sinker and the one we have is for 30 pounds and up. The clip in the back doesn't adjust much, so I think you do need to check for fit in the water if you use it under the weight minumum.

We started using it when LO1 was about 13 months old and had no issues. She only weighed about 20 lbs, so nowhere near the recommended 30 lbs minimum weight requirement, but she was great with it. She was super confident in the water quite quickly and never wanted us holding onto her - she was perfectly happy to swim around the pool all on her own with it. It still fits her now at almost 3 yrs old.
Oh, yes forgot that LO2 just used one when we were on holiday last month - she had just turned 15 months old and again, no problems with it whatsoever.
The only thing I've noticed is that it works much better in saltwater than in freshwater. In freshwater pools, both of my girls have trouble keeping buoyant enough to keep their mouths out of the water, whereas in the saltwater pools, it is not an issue.

DS used it last summer at 15-18 months and around 24/25lbs. Worked great!

@jetsa: @Mrs. Oatmeal: I have the same thought, I"ll be right there beside him the entire time. I just want something so when he pitches forward, his mouth doesn't go underwater, so I was thinking the chest piece would help.

Had to do an update: we purchased the Puddle Jumper (the lion one, so cute!!) and tried it today at the pool. My kid LOVED it and swam on his own, which surprised me so much! We had tried water wings over the weekend which were a fail, but he seemed really secure in the Puddle Jumper. He took in a little water if he tipped forward too much, but otherwise did fantastic. Thanks for all the recs!
