I kind of follow 2 rules. When I start pumping I aim to pump for 15 minutes. If there is still a good flow at 15 minutes then I will keep going until it's a super slow trickle (like 1 drop every few sucks). I have the Medela PIS that has the 2 speeds/types of suction and I might rotate through them a couple of times to stimulate another letdown.

15 minutes is tough for me. I think I get one let down but if I go 18-21 minutes I can get that second let down. Someone told me (I think on here) that the milk should be "spraying" out, if its just dripping, you can probably stop.
