I've read a lot lately about the benefits of delaying teaching kids until they are developmentally ready. Our approach so far has been to stress sensory play, outdoor time, and learning through discovery.
Yet I get stressed when I see what some parents are doing with their kids. I fear we need to focus on early learning more and it makes me uneasy. Today's blog post for example (early learning toys for 2 year olds) makes me worried about my almost two year old. I think he's of normal intelligence but there's no way he's ready for that stuff. He loves to have me read to him, but I've made zero effort to teach him about letters or encourage him to do anything beyond scribbling however he likes.
What has been your approach?
) but it's all on her own, we've never forced it, aside from talking about numbers on an everyday basis, like "we have two shoes, 1, 2" or "oh, I see 5 birds on that tree, do you see them? 1,2,3,4,5" or whatever.
You already got lots of really good advice!
