If you have a baby and an older sibling, does the older child play with puzzles? How do you keep the baby away from them? DS likes big puzzles that he puts together on the floor, but lately he can't work on them without DD "helping" by taking them apart as he goes. I think it's really sweet, but I feel bad for DS too!

DS is 4 and DD is 8months, so he has a lot of toys that need to be kept away from her. We trade off, sometimes he needs to take those toys to a different space like on the kitchen table, or in another room, and sometimes she gets contained in the pack n play, or behind a baby gate.

@kiddosc: I've considered that! We don't have room on the tables, and the baby totally knows she's missing out on the fun when she goes in the playpen. The best things I've come up with are sitting with them and trying to run interference, and handing her my best adult belongings (art supplies, hair clips and all that) to keep her occupied
She's so determined... can't wait till she also gets a bit less destructive.

@Mama Bird: Ugh, I totally get that. No amount of distraction really keeps her from trying to get back to him. I'm considering more of a gated off area for his toys. Then she has free range to the rest of the house, but maybe he can play in peace a little.

We have specific "big boy toys" that we keep out of their reach. My oldest will ask to play with them and knows it's ok when younger brother is napping.
