So I'm currently job hunting and there are a ton of job listings in my field and in Boston. I've been applying to jobs in the Philadelphia area because I want to be back home and there's a good chance that we could rent/own MIL home (a large home that would be our forever home.) Anyway, job listings in Philly are very slim picking.

Back to Boston, if I get a job there, what cities in the suburbs can I buy a home with a yard and near a rail line? I don't mind a hour commute. It would be nice to take a train to work but I could drive to work as well. Also, how much would a home cost in that area?

We are in Seattle and in an apartment but I want to buy a home. I'm just hesitant in looking in Boston because I don't want to live in a condo or apartment for a long time but I know that I need to go where the jobs are.
