LO is only 6 days old, but I find that she has a fair amount of nose mucus. It's not runny, she just sounds stuffy and it's visible. Plus she sneezes several times a day. We've had to use the aspirator on her nose pretty much daily.
Was this something that you've seen in your newborn? Could it be a temperature (home) thing? Am I just a paranoid new mommy?

DD had that when she was first born. She actually was so stuffy that she had a hard time nursing and she sounded like a little piggy. I was told it was because she spent such a short time in the birth canal that the amniotic fluid was not squeezed out of her sinus cavity and that it would take a little while to get it all out. I can't remember how long it lasted, but it did get much better after a week or so.

LO is STILL super stuffy at almost 5 weeks old. My husband is constantly attacking the poor thing with the aspirator! It doesn't cause her any issues... She breathes and nurses just fine and her nose doesn't run.. But we can definitely hear her sniffles.

I was told that its normal for newborns to be stuffy/ sneeze a lot as they clear fluid from the womb from their lungs and noses. So I wouldn't worry.

I work in the PP wing of a hospital with the newborns & they are all constantly sneezing. It's definitely normal... and adorable.

@hilsy85: This is what the doctor told us when we asked.
LO still gets congestion at 5 months but it doesn't seem to bother her and there are no other symptoms so he said not to worry.

I remember the nurses saying how normal it is for LO to sneeze a lot when I asked in the hospital. I wouldn't worry!

I was told the same thing as @BabyBoecksMom: . It's excess fluid and mucous that will go away soon.
