None of the above?
Do you have Yuengling where you are? That's our party beer. Or Sam Adams.

Heineken is my aunt's and FIL's favorite.
Budweiser is what my hubby drinks.
Most of our friends our age drink Red Stripe, which is a Jamaican beer.

I second @mediagirl:
Sam or Yuengling would be more of crowd pleasers to us.
Do you have to pick just one? Can you get a seasonal assortment of Sam Adams, something lite, and something heartier like Guinness?

Our group varies, honestly Michalob Ultra is popular among women, and Bud Light (Busch Light if you have it) for guys, if we were going to go "nicer" we could get Blue Moon, Stella, or Leinenkugel's.

@mediagirl: @MaryM: I MISS YUENGLING! Stupid California
I'd say out of the list provided, Blue Moon or Stella would be the more general crowd pleasers. Heineken and Coronas have a reputation of being "skunky" beers.

Lol can you guys tell I don't drink
What about Lagunitas IPA? @LindsayInNY: @MaryM: @HabesBabe: @LuLu Mom: @mediagirl:

@luckypenny: Never had it, never even heard of it. (I'm a cheap date and like cheap beer ha)
grapefruit / 4400 posts
@luckypenny: IPAs are very hoppy and people either love 'em or hate 'em. They're very popular with the hipsters these days. But not a general crowd pleaser.
Who is your audience? Maybe we can give more suggestions based on the event and the attendees.
pomelo / 5129 posts
@luckypenny: IPA is sort of a love it or hate it kind of beer (they tend to be hoppy). A Lager or Ale is probably your safest bet if you want one beer that many will drink

@luckypenny: Lagunitas is DH's favorite, but it's a super strong hoppy flavor and I'm not a fan. When we get it for a party I always get something else too, most people I know don't like it. For parties I like to get a mix of beers. The Sam Adams or Blue Moon seasonal packs are always good!

@HabesBabe: our family friends. All parents in their 30s. Professional men. We all live in brooklyn. It's a fancy cocktail party
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
@luckypenny: my husband the beer guy just said Sierra Nevada, Guiness and a Sam Adams sampler pack.
Or how about the Brooklyn brewery beers?
grapefruit / 4400 posts
@luckypenny: Yes, get something local if you could, like @mediagirl: suggested. Or since it's a holiday party, I'd go with a Sam Adams or Blue Moon seasonal variety pack. There's usually a good mixture of IPAs, ales, lagers, stouts, and/or season-appropriate (think gingerbread stout, etc) for the holidays.
persimmon / 1310 posts
I'd go with anything from Brooklyn, myself. Or New York state.
For a fancy cocktail party, I might go with Ommegang. If the cocktails are special, shouldn't the beer be special too?
eggplant / 11824 posts
For a fancy cocktail party I would definitely get a better beer like Sam Adams or Brooklyn brewery.
pomelo / 5257 posts
I think Sam Adams is the right combo of not too expensive but still nice for a cocktail party. I loooove IPAs, the happier the better, but I know a lot of people aren't into them.
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
Grab a few sample variety packs! Or if you have a local brewery. I would drink any of these but love a good winter ale
grapefruit / 4582 posts
@HabesBabe: I could do local but wanted to stick with something a bit cheaper or that I coils but at costco
grapefruit / 4400 posts
@luckypenny: Oh, I'm all for Costco booze shopping Are the Blue Moon cases there seasonal? Only drawback is if it's regular Blue Moon, you'd have a lot of one type of beer, since it's a Costco size package and all.

@luckypenny: If you live in Brooklyn, try some local beers! Either Sixpoint or Brooklyn Brewery?
grapefruit / 4582 posts
@LindsayInNY: I think blue moon seasonal pack ? lol I can't even start on wine....
White and red? White sangria and red? Mulled wine? Spiked cider?
bananas / 9229 posts
@luckypenny: Are you hosting the party? For wine, you're safe to stick with red and white wines. Depends how fancy you want to get!
grapefruit / 4400 posts
I wouldn't do spiced ciders or mulled wine. They are festive, but kinda gimmicky. Just regular red and whites would be best!
grapefruit / 4582 posts
@LindsayInNY: yup. Hosting. It's also the first party with all our new friends and I want to make sure everyone has a good time. And that there's enough food lol.
DH and I both don't drink. I never really liked to and as a crazy teenager I only had Long Island ice teas and corona
bananas / 9229 posts
@luckypenny: If you wanted to get fancy, you could do a sparkling wine too like a prosecco and have garnishes - cranberries, juice to mix in, etc. As for beer, maybe do a mix of lighter beer with a heavier one?
grapefruit / 4582 posts
@LindsayInNY: ooo! That's sounds good
What about something like this http://pinterest.com/pin/257971884881018229/
bananas / 9229 posts
@luckypenny: That looks good! I had something like this recently: http://www.marthastewart.com/329038/cranberry-cocktails It was a cranberry simple syrup, prosecco/champagne/sparking wine with loose cranberries dropped in! Friends use to make this awesome punch. I want to see if I can find the recipe...
