For those whose kids have a summer breaks (ie. school age kids): How is your summer break going? Or if your LO already started school, how was the summer break for you? Was it exactly how you planned for? Was it better than what you had hoped, or did everything go haywire? How would you rate it? Would love to hear about it

Mine was a 5.5. It would have been worse but I am glad it turned out the way it did.
I had summer camps lined up perfectly, DS and I even did a summer break bucket list. Everything went out of the window when my mom called and informed us she was very sick. I had to leave the country to be with her (in Hong Kong) to sort things out for a few weeks while in-laws came to take care of DS. Things was haywire but I can not have asked for more. I came back for a week or two, planning to go home with my family toward the end of the summer to see my mom, but she passed away before that. We went for another 3 weeks to sort out everything and have just gotten back.
It wasn't a good scenario but I can not be more thankful. Apart from the fact that my mom passed away within the summer break, and it was sad that we didn't get to see my mom at the end, everything could have gone way worse but all of us survived and everything is handled. We even managed to sign DS up for a one week camp while in Hong Kong so he gets to experience life with local children. His Cantonese (comprehension) was better. We bought new books at the book fair there and he was reading a few books on his own. I do wish he had more initiative to do his homework and book reports for his rising first grade holiday assignments.

We had my inlaws visiting for 10 days and my son is in a combination of camps that he's absolutely loving, so I am riding high.

Japan trip, grandparent time, summer school “camp”, play dates & back to school again. The usual gymnastics and language classes. Summer is too short!

That is a tough summer..... great you got to fly there to be with her and your son got to squeeze in a little camp time out there.

It's been decent. Busy as usual. But full of unexpected things. It's still not slowing down for us. We'll be going through a series of transitions.
Overall a good summer.

My kids are in preschool, but they get a summer break, since they follow the elementary school calendar as far as holidays and breaks. The summer has been going well. The kids have done a few summer camps and we went on a beach vacation, so we haven't had a lot of days in a row with nothing to do. I'm looking forward to preschool starting back up later this month, so we can get back to our usual routine.

I think it went pretty well considering I’m now 39w with #3 in a location where summer can be easily 100 degrees (or 110 lately!)
We had a bucket list of fun things that kept us reasonably busy when I was up to it. I have also been pretty good this time about letting things go - fun things we didn’t get to, or stuff around the house. Maybe the biggest help was how much fun my kids (3 and 6) had together just playing at home. They bicker plenty too but could really keep themselves busier (without my help) than in past years!

@irene: I’m so sorry about your Mom - how are you doing?
We don’t really fall into the category - this is our last summer before B starts school, so really not much is different - but we’re having a pretty great summer, although I feel weird summarizing it because to me it’s only half over, school doesn’t start for a month. We’ve still got a trip to the cottage, a day at Toronto Island, and a Day out with Thomas to look forward to!
