I have this beautiful mirror that used to be DH's maternal grandmother. I would love to clean it up and refinish it.
I think the edge detailing is all like a hard plastic.
What's the best way to clean it up? I was was thinking soapy water and toothbrush. Lol. Is there a product out there that will make it easier?
I want this for over my dresser I think. Our bedroom will eventually be a smoky gray with bright yellow accents.
Any tips and suggestions?

Nice! If the dust/dirt isn't too built up - maybe the compressed air cans (like they use for keyboards?) Otherwise I think toothbrush is a good idea!

@shopaholic: haha this mirror was in the house when his grandparents bought it. When they got married.... I don't think the mirror has been cleaned once.

can you take it apart?
I'd remove the mirror to see what you're working with in terms of the frame.
If it's plastic, I'd probably spray paint it. for the mirror, glass cleaner, but not on the back.

If you're going to paint it, check out Martha Stewart paints. I did a mirror for my mom with silver and then a coffee glaze to antique it. There are a lot of cool colors and finishes. Pretty sure they have the whole line at Home Depot.
