This was part of my friend's wedding ceremony (he and his husband just got married a few weeks ago):

To understand what X and X mean to each other, listen carefully to the words of Bob Marley:

“He’s not perfect.

You aren’t either, and the two of you will never be perfect.

But if he can make you laugh at least once, causes you to think twice, and if he admits to being human and making mistakes, hold onto him and give him the most you can.

To understand what love means to X and X, listen carefully to the words of Thich Nhat Hanh in his book 'The Art of Power”:

"The Buddha spoke about four elements that constitute true love: the capacity to be kind and offer happiness, the capacity to relieve suffering, the capacity to bring joy every day, and finally, the capacity of nondiscrimination.

When there is true love, there is nondiscrimination.

The pain of the other is our own pain; the happiness of the other is our own happiness...

To make our love meaningful, we need to nourish our mind of boundless love and compassion...

We learn to love one person with all our understanding and insight."

And finally to understand what marriage means to X and X, listen carefully to the words of Justice Anthony Kennedy in the recent Supreme Court ruling in favor of marriage equality:

“No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice and family.

In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than they once were.”

Today, we watch X and X become something greater than they once were.

I don't know if they want to be "political" or focus on the fact that they are entering a same sex marriage, but there are some really poignant quotes from the Supreme Court opinion on the gay marriage decision.

It would misunderstand these men and women to say they disrespect the idea of marriage. Their hope is not to be condemned to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilization’s oldest institutions. They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right.”

“The nature of marriage is that, through its enduring bond, two persons together can find other freedoms, such as expression, intimacy, and spirituality. This is true for all persons, whatever their sexual orientation…There is dignity in the bond between two men or two women who seek to marry and in their autonomy to make such profound choices.”

“Marriage responds to the universal fear that a lonely person might call out only to find no one there. It offers the hope of companionship and understanding and assurance that while both still live there will be someone to care for the other.”
