Is It possible Donald Trump could be the next POTUS? I mean. Really!? Is this happening?

I'm still in shock that people are voting for him. I originally thought he was just running for publicity for his brand. I didn't think it was serious.

I have to believe there is no way he would win a general election.
Right? Right?! He is so polarizing that even those lazy young voters who never vote might show up.

I'm tickled by him being the nominee as a middle finger to the GOP, and by him taking a shellacking in the generals as a middle finger to him. Win win!

@Golden: Unfortunately I have quite a few family members who will be voting for him.
I will do everything thing in my power to make it to the polls in November to vote against him if he is the Republican nominee. I don't really like Hillary, but if she is Democratic nominee I will gladly vote for her instead of Trump.

As a Canadian this is a fairly terrifying presidential campaign to witness. U.S. politics sadly have too much sway over what will happen up here and I'd rather this moron not lead us all into a third world war. I recently read a tweet that sums up my feelings on Trump/this election pretty succinctly:
"America, you might call this an election, but the rest of the world is viewing it as your I.Q. Test. And it's not looking good."

@lawbee11: I saw this the other day and now it is ALL I can see when I look at him.
And he won Boston. Not just MA but in our city. Who are these people?

I can't figure out how this is happening. I'm a diehard liberal and I find myself actually agreeing with my fundamentalist family's political posts because they hate him too. Who the hell actually thinks he's good?!

Even more scary than his personality, egotism, and generally poor attitude is that he has no plan. No details. No specifics. And people are just buying into this shit!!!!

@JessicaMcB: that tweet!! Lol. I am in Australia, so I am just in disbelief that there are people who will actually vote for him

I really hope not. This whole time I've been sort of wondering if he's just there to make any other republican look more moderate. But he keeps going and going. I don't know. But I'm pretty set in my beliefs and very jaded when it comes to politics.

@winniebee: what?! He's going to make it all great! It's gonna be great! They're gonna have great jobs. Education is gonna be great! The wall is gonna be great! Not specific enough?
(My 3 year old could write his speeches!)

I hope not. If there was just one other Republican candidate it wouldn't even be an issue. 1/3 of votes are going to Trump and 2/3 are being split up between all the other candidates. Rubio needs to drop out and let his supporters go to Cruz.

@travellingbee: LOL. GREAT GREAT GREAT!
It's scary because it means what he says - build a wall, hate on Muslims - resonates with people and PEOPLE AGREE WITH HIM. So much hate. It's scary.

@artsyfartsy: it's terrifying that Cruz is being seen as a reasonable option. He's bananas too, just more subtle.

@Silva: so freaking true. He used to be the right wing nut and now people think he's normal!
@pinkcupcake: that is what is most upsetting... Those people still believe those things whether he wins or not
pomegranate / 3643 posts
@artsyfartsy: @Silva: I think Cruz's positions are way scarier than Trump's. Trump is a racist and a bigot and a misogynist and doesn't hide it. Cruz knows how to schmooz his way to frightening outcomes.
cantaloupe / 6692 posts
@jedeve: That's true. I don't support Cruz either but I feel like Trump has let this election turn into a circus and the sooner he's gone the better. Pulling for Bernie until the end.

Trump speaks in such simple terms that it drives me crazy. His answer to everything is he is going to make a "good deal" and "negotiate."

Some people down my street have Trump signs in their yard. When they moved into their house they built this 6ft high metal spoke fence around their home. That's all I know about them. But i doubt we'll be friends.

I can't believe that Carson is going to endorse him! He seemed like the quietest, and most conservative candidate and he's endorsing the loudest and most unpredictable?
pomelo / 5607 posts
@jedeve: I agree, generally. There's no real telling what Trump will do, but Cruz is pretty clear he'll screw us all. And Trump is alienating a lot of conservatives. My mom is about as conservative as they come, and she has said she'll vote democrat just to keep him out of office if he gets the nomination. But Cruz she likes. So a Trump nomination *could* actually be better. But it's so embarrassing to have the rest of the world seeing this shit show of an election.

@lawbee11: bahaha that's so creepy.
Gah. I'm so scared for the future of our country. It makes stomach hurt to even think about Trump becoming president.

@travellingbee: also "it's gonna be terrific!" And "you're gonna love it!"

I work for the fed govt and will be job hunting of he wins, I can't work under someone I don't trust at all! My military friends are concerned he would follow through on what he says and ask them to break international law (target and kill terrorists families, torture, etc).
