My favorite book from the past year was The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Claire North. Here's the synopsis from Amazon:

The Nightingale. So good!!!

@Beehive: I have heard that book is amazing but also insanely dark and depressing. Accurate?

I have read several books by Jojo Moyes while nursing nonstop. I got them through my library and have liked everything I read by her--good characters, interesting situations, well written and engaging.

Interested to check out some of these!

I just recently finished:

The Girl on the Train: beginning was pretty good, and then it was too much like Gone Girl and way too predictable. It’s a quick read though and is a fun way to pass the time.

The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman. Weird and very different novel, but also really good and I keep thinking about it after finishing it. It’s definitely different though, and I don’t think everyone will like it.

Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn (author of Gone Girl): simply terrible. Rubbish. Don’t waste your time. It’s clear Flynn *hates* women and has no respect for women. There were both glaring editing errors in the book, and every relationship was totally predictable. I finished it, hoping it would get better. It doesn’t.

The Girl with all the Gifts was also great and kept me up.

I second the love for All The Light We Cannot See and Station Eleven. Station Eleven was a pick for my book club and I did not expect to even like it, but holy crap did it surprise me. One of the best I've read in a long time.

Currently reading Donna Tartt's "The Secret History" because it's beloved by so many people and I just never got around to it. Also, because I loved The Goldfinch.

@meredithNYC: Have you read "The Little Friend" by Donna Tartt? Both my husband and I really enjoyed it.

We just read the Boys in the Boat and Mrs. Lincoln's Dressmaker for my book club and they were both excellent.

I've really loved everything by Kate Morton, but especially The Forgotten Garden. All of her books are mysteries and they have cool twists.

@regberadaisy: I read a reader's copy of the Girl with all the Gifts before it came out--loved it.

@avivoca: For some reason I can't bring myself to finish that book. It's huge! It's interesting but I've read like 6 other books since I started it and now I don't think I can go back.

The Girl on the Train was ok.
Station Eleven is AWESOME!
