oooh, poor baby!

when you're changing her, what are you cleaning her off with? wipes can be really irritating and abrasive on newly healing skin. cleaning her off under running water and then patting dry with a soft cloth can help. even after changing pee diapers, ten minutes of diaper free time to let her bum dry can really help. triple paste is my favorite diaper cream for rashes, it works wonders on most bums. it's a little $$, but even the small tube lasts a while.

@swedishfish: we've had this happen once or twice before. Diaper free, cool bath to soothe the skin, let her air dry, then applied nystatin like icing on a cake with a very thick layer of desatin on top. Lather, rinse, repeat.

@swedishfish: do you think it could be a yeast infection? DD used to get them all the time. Our pediatrician had us put Lotramin (the athlete's foot cream) on her and then cover with triple paste 3x a day. It worked miracles!

If you think it's just a bad rash, go ahead and call the doctor. We were given a prescription rash ointment that cleared up a super bad rash for her.

Triple paste! I would get some free and cleartype diapers too.

Oh poor baby! When has bad diaper rash we have to use wet paper towels to wipe, the wipes seem to sting and irritate the area. We tried to find triple paste but couldn't find it in the store (but I sent DH out, so it could just be him!). That sounds pretty bad, I might call the on call doc. Then again, I am the crazy mom who brought her baby in to the doctor for diaper rash when she was 7 weeks old!

When I thought it was a yeast rash, I was using coconut oil on it and it seemed to help for a while, so you could also try that, but if it's this painful for her I'd probably just call.

When we had our worst rash we used Corona and Triple Paste alternated at each diaper change. We still use the Corona when she gets just a little pink at night and it's always completely gone by morning.

I didn't know that you could get Corona at a regular store, good to know.

When LOs have gotten yeast infections I mix the yeast cream with diaper rash cream in the palm of my hand and then slather it on, making sure to get in the butt crack. Lots of diaper free time too, it's good to let it dry out.

Each of my LOs have gotten one bad yeasty rash that seems to be causing them pain and plain yogurt in the diaper helps a ton. Leave it in their diaper for half hour or so before bath time. It seems to soothe and help clear it up.

I don't have anything to add that hasn't been mentioned here already (damp washcloth instead of baby wipes, diaper free time, baking soda in the bath, Triple Paste) so I just wanted to send big hugs your way. E has been getting recurrent rashes since July, and it's so hard seeing him in so much pain. I hope it clears up ASAP!

Poor baby! A had terrible nappy rash when she cut her molars and it was awful!

I was thinking maybe try giving her reeally bland foods so that when she does poop it's not acidic on her butt?

DD had a terrible yeast rash over Christmas and nothing seemed to work, but lots of coconut oil at every change cleared it up within 3 days.

I took my LO to the doctor for a diaper rash once. She took one look and gave us a prescription. That did the trick in a day ( your story sounds very similar to ours). It took weeks for the blisters to really heal and go away, but they weren't open any more after the first day.

I know it may be a long shot but DS had an adverse reaction to desitin (we think he's allergic to Zinc) so we are only able to use a&d and Vaseline.
