Because if you spend that much money on a toy, your LO will inevitably lose it on a walk around the neighborhood, and you will feel compelled to spend half an hour in the hot FL sun/humidity to find it!!!!!

Sucks that you had to search for half an hour, but I am glad that's the reason! We just bought a bla bla doll for our baby girl and I was worried you were going to say they were a choking hazard or something!

Haha. I drove 40 miles round trip in rush hour traffic during my LO's dinner time because she lost one of her shoes.

Oh my gosh B lost his beloved gator at Sawgrass Mills today. Thankfully I found it on the floor at Burlington!

Haha, I felt that way about Sophie the giraffe. I spent $20 freakin dollars on something for her to chew on, we're going back for it!
We did actually end up losing it in the airport on our way home to England in January.

@zippylef: That's why I have 5 Sophies scattered around our house. I also made a Sophie leash to attach to B when we go out in the stroller.

We do this for pretty much anything. We noticed she lost her pacifier one day after a walk and DH went out looking for it. It wasn't too far though.
A couple of weeks ago we went to Ikea and when we got home, we noticed she was missing her Lamaze Mortimer the Moose. We went back and looked for it and I called lost and found. We ended up buying a new one (they're like $10 on Amazon) but I got a call a couple of days ago that they found him so we're going to get him on Friday!

So glad you found it! This happened with some of my kids Mary Meyer stuffed monster toys.....not necessarily that expensive, but more unique toys that were gifted to us. I made the mistake of letting the kids take theirs to target and of course they ended up on the floor....and being soft, I didn't notice right away....scoured the store forever....then luckily found it at the customer service desk!
But my take home lesson from all of it? The kids only get to take hard/plastic toys when we go out. That way, if they fall, we HEAR them!
And they were, otherwise I would not have gone back for them!
