I want to start making crock pot meals now that I'm back at work, but the only problem is I don't own a crock pot My mom's going to buy me one for my birthday next week, so I need some recommendations! Thanks!

We've used this one at least once a week for the last 2 years and love it!

America's test kitchen recommends crock-pot touchscreen slow cooker (I just happen to be sitting here with their slow cooker cookbook picking out something to make )

@lawbee11: We just got this one for christmas:

It has been great so far! It is nice for WOH parents as you can set it for the time it should cook and then it stays on warm until you get home to deal with it.

We've had this All-Clad one for 7 years and love it. We have used it a ton (especially in the winter time for lots of braises and stews and soups) and it has held up well and always cooks beautifully.

I would get one of the slow cookers with the lid that clamps down. Mine doesn't do this and it is a mess trying to transport anything in it.
This one looks nice:

@lawbee11: I have one similar to the one @NCSUchick27: posted only it's not programmable. I transported food in it at Christmas to my moms and it worked great!

I have the one mrs bird and Americas yet kitchen recommend and it was on amazon for $80 last year I think
One feature I wish it had was to be programmed for when to go on. I want to put my food together or pull it from the fridge at 6am, have it turn on at 10, and go for 6 hours. It doesn't have a start delay, though

I just got one where you can also brown and saute in it. It is by Cuisinart. It's great! I can get nice color on onions and meats without having to dirty another pan, and it's easy to clean.

Get one with a timer. Sometimes it needs to start mid-day to be ready by the time I get home (later).

@mrs. bird: No, it's not that one. I remember you mentioning it in another thread and it sounds awesome! We received a pressure cooker as a gift, and now have a 3-in-1 slow cooker. It would be great to have just one thing though--those appliances take up a lot of real estate!
