All liquid foundations, all medium+ coverage:
Chanel Prefection Lumiere $58
Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) Fusion Ink $60
Revlon Colorstay $12
Ones I do NOT like:
Sephora brand foundation, HD Makeup Forever, Covergirl, Almay.

I LOVE the L'Oreal True Match Lumi Healthy Luminous Makeup foundation. It's fantastic! ~$13

My favorite is Lancome Teint Idole Ultra.
I think this is very subjective- I know a lot of people like Urban Decay Naked foundation but it looked terrible on me when I gave it a try. I don't buy drugstore foundation because you usually can't try it first.

Daily I use a BB cushion, but when I really need to put on make-up I use Revlon Colorstay. I was told it's comparable to Mac! I like the coverage and doesn't feel heavy.

It really depends on your skin type. I have dry to normal skin during the summer so these work best for me. My top three for a skin like finish and medium but buildable coverage (from lowest to highest in price) are...
-Loreal Infallible Pro Glow
-Nars Sheer Glow
-Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk ($$$ but it has a beautiful finish)
For full coverage, matte finish (again lowest to highest) and better for normal to oily skin
-Revlon Colorstay
-Loreal Infallible Pro Matte
-Kat Von D Lock It
I've also heard great things about Marc Jacobs Re(Marc)able foundation. But its $55
I loved Dior Air Flash, too but there isn't a wide variety of shades. MAC has been terrible for my skin and you can only find a large variety of shades in the pro store. Makeup Forever HD wasn't great even though there was a lot of hype over it. A lot of people love Maybeline Fit Me but I found the shades to be too pink. I couldn't work with it because every light shade looked like a mask.

It Cosmetics, Your Skin But Better CC Cream $38
Arbonne Perfecting Liquid Foundation - Full Coverage $43
Estee Lauder Double Wear - Full Coverage $39.50
These all last me several months.
I've never had good luck with drugstore foundation!

If there is a Sephora near you, go and get them to help you find a foundation that works best for your skin (color and type) and your preferences (price, etc). Sephora has a very generous return policy. You can return anything (even if its open and partially used) for a full refund. I tend to try new things at Sephora because I know I can always take it back if it doesn't work out.

I have had the best luck colorwise with Bobbi Brown.
I have also had success with Loreal True Match foundation, but that's after a lot of experimenting to know my color.

@MOMTOLITTLEB: just FYI - CVS will take back any cosmetic that is opened for a full refund if you have your receipt - I love being able to try out new lip gloss and know I wont be stuck with it if I hate how it looks on me

@Mamaof2: They don't make you feel guilty when you return? I think it is a good policy to have since you can't try anything out! My skin is sensitive but I've been curious about a few drugstore foundations.

Laura Mercier mineral foundation. spf, easy to apply with a kabuki brush (no mess on your hands) lasts forrrrever. I've been wearing that stuff for gosh...7 years? 8? More? I've gotten more compliments on my skin wearing that (and trust me, my skin is blotchy, reddish, some acne). Its not full coverage, but pretty build able.
Another one I've been really happy with for a little more coverage/liquid foundation is It cosmetics your skin but better ( i think thats what its called),

It cosmetics makes an AWESOME c.c. cream! Like the previous poster said it's called Your skin but better.

I use Bare Minerals matte powder foundation. I think it's only like $22-25. That said, I don't need much coverage so if you need more it wouldn't be a good fit.
ETA: My skin is on the drier side and sensitive, and I've tried others but I've been happiest with bare minerals. I'm almost 10 years strong.

This might be outside the category of foundation, but I recently bought Garnier skin perfecting BB cream (anti acne) and it's magical! It's the perfect amount of coverage, and I've been ignoring the other 2 high end foundations in my cabinet because it just works so well.

I really like the L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte foundation and Revlon Nearly Naked. Both have medium coverage and don't cost more than about $13 at the drug store.
A few years ago when my skin was horrible I used to pack on Revlon Colorstay, which had great coverage, but is super heavy.

If you really want to stay cheap and low commitment, this is like $5 at target. I bought it when I didn't want to spend a lot, and just keep going back to it over $20-30 foundations that I have tried.
ETA: and it gives pretty good coverage bc I have a lot of redness and acne that it evens out.

I use clinique super powder double face makeup. I love it, and for a powder I feel like it keeps my face moisturized. It costs me $30 and lasts a long time.
