I am taking my baby to the beach in a few weeks. He will be 1 week shy of 6 months. I am not sure about using sunscreen at this age, but would think we need something for added protection while swimming (I do have a rash guard, swim trucks, hat and shade tent for on the beach). I read the best thing to use is something that sits on top of their skin rather than sinking into it that you just wash off afterward, but no clue what sunscreens offer that type of protection. Any recommendations for a good sunscreen for this age that you liked or used?

Just saying I would totally use sunscreen. Grizz suggested Blue Lizard brand, so that's what I have and used a few weekends ago and liked just fine. Also some sprays for back ups and for spraying her head down with. I also bought swim tights and a rash guard and we have big hats for her

I used it last year and am really happy with it.
ETA: just read your post. haha I think he's close enough to 6 months I would use sunscreen. I would also limit his outside sun exposure time. I think it's like 30 minutes? And stay inside during peak hours which I think is generally speaking 12-3pm.

I like alba. Basically you want to choose a mineral sunscreen, rather than a chemical one. But anything is better than sun damage! (Says the mom whose kid got a little pink yesterday, even though I reapplied three times

I would also opt for sunscreen. We use BurnOut and like it (physical sunscreen).

I agree you should be fine, but I'd avoid sprays...hats are way better. I like CA baby, but there are many similar options.

We had an outdoor graduation ceremony to attend with LO when she was 5.5 months. Her pediatrician suggested California Baby or Blue Lizard. We bought the former and used it all summer with no complaints. We also used a giant hat and did our best to stay in the shade, of course.

We liked blue lizard too. Gonna try thinkbaby as it got good reviews as well. Avoid sprays as they are all chemical, not a physical block.

@troberts, well I would definitely put something on her head but it's insurance for when she takes it off and won't keep it on, heh. It's like once she knows it's there, she's obsessed with it

I also really like babobotanicals stick and lotion. With my 3 year old, I use the babyganics spray because he is far too impatient for the lotion.
