We like Sandra Boynton's Pbiladelphia Chickens and I'm looking for others like it - fun, upbeat, "non-traditional" kids songs. Any recommendations? Thanks!

I don't know if you can find the CD, but look for Music for Aardvarks on iTunes and get the Taxi album. A music teacher randomly gave us the CD when we were waiting at the bank when DS was a baby and it is SO good! I'm really not into nursery rhyme type songs and this one is very original and not annoying when you listen to it over and over.

You should check out Boynton's Frog Trouble, too! We also like the Putamayo Kids collections, They Might Be Giants Here Come the ABCs and No!, and Jose-Luis Orozco's bilingual Spanish albums.

Barenaked Ladies have a kid's cd that we like. I think it's called Snacktime. We also like the compilation cd For the Kids. I think there are a few of them, but we only have the first one.

We love Raffi and since he takes Music Together, we listen to those CDs a lot.

Check out Hullabaloo. We love the Best of album. He's a local San Diego kid's singer and his songs are funny and catchy and I don't mind hearing them over and over. My favorite "Mommy's got a grown up sippy cup. She goes to Starbucks to fill it up..."

We don't listen to a lot of kid music at home, but we do have a couple albums from a local "kindie" band. All the songs are original, so it's not great if you're looking for versions of the standard songs like Wheels on the Bus etc, but DD loves them and gets super excited whenever I put one on. The band is called Brian Vogan and His Good Buddies. My favorite album is High 5! and we also have the newest one, called BVGB. You can preview them on iTunes if you want to check them out.

@Mrs Panda: I'm not sure if this is similar to what you like but we enjoy Elizabeth Mitchell for kids music. Good as a pandora station, too.

I also like Elizabeth Mitchell. I have a playlist of songs I put on when I'm playing with LO at home and it's mostly non-kids songs (mostly stuff I like and know most of the words so I can sing to her) but I do have a lot of Elizabeth Mitchell on there. Once LO is older we'll probably mix in a lot more kids music.

We love Big Block Singsong. The songs are actually really funny and well done. Sometimes I listen to them on my own lol. We also like Okee Dokee Brothers and Muppets songs.
