My southern-roots family does the bisquick (or homemade) rolled and cut into squares; nothing else. Veggies in chicken and dumpling is blasphemy.

I grew up in Ga. My grandmother doesn't make it with veggies. That wouldn't be chicken and dumplings to me!

I prefer drop dumplings, but grew up with rolled out homemade dumplings (in AL). No veggies... That would essentially be chicken pot pie. Gross.

Arizona, so we don't really have a traditional recipe. I really like Cracker Barrel's recipe- especially since I love their okra too.

It is a super simple dumpling recipe, but it tastes so good that I lick the mixing bowl!

I grew up with my family doing biscuits dropped in (northern style I guess) and I always thought I didn't like dumplings. Then I met my IL's and she made southern style (like a noodle) and they are SOO good. Its the one thing I have asked my MIL to make for me when I'm sick!

GA girl and dumpling's are from biscuits and don't have veggies in them. Veggies are supposed to be fried

My mother makes them, she learned from her mom who was from NC.

Chicken and loads of carrots, celery, onions ans potatos. The broth is starchy. She then drops in quartered pillsbury biscuits. I'm sure my grandma didn't take the biscuit shortcut though.

ETA: my mom was raised in PA. After reading all the comments maybe that's why hers has veggies.

Chicken and dumplings in these parts is rolled Bisquick and no veggies. But I actually don't like it, and though I've never had the Northern/Midwestern dropped dumplings, it looks like I'd prefer it.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: lol! I grew up in the South (OK and TX) and that's all I've ever had it. With veggies!
