I think that I'd be inclined to start one around 22-24-ish weeks and then add to it as I find things that we needed.

You can start one on Amazon and make it unsearchable if you want to add to it little by little...that's what I've done already, and as my friends mention items they couldn't live without I've been adding them there.

yeah i think i'm going to do that.... after 20 weeks! just start adding things that other people say they can't do without!
my brother mentioned that some stores will give you a discount on items that have not been purchased on the registry. does amazon do that?

HA. i started one as soon as i found out i was pregnant.

Amazon has a 10% completion discount that lasts (I think) 90 days after your event date/due date. For when to start on your registry, I'm sure anytime is fine but make sure you have enough time before your shower! I'm at 23 weeks and am having my baby shower at 28-29 weeks. My husband and I just started ours on Amazon.

i also started a wish list on amazon, and still keep one to bookmark things i might want to buy in the future.
if you live near a buy buy baby, they have the best return policy. the staff is also super knowledgeable. they're part of bed bath and beyond. target has a horrible return policy.

Uhhh, yeah, I started a wish list on Babies R Us and Amazon already. Just started TTC. It's a private list, so no one knows about it. Shhhh! Then I can just transfer the items to the registry when I do get pregnant. I can window shop can't I?

@Bluestriped Bee... I've thought about doing that! There are so many things that I hear about that sound so neat/necessary and I'm afraid that I'll forget them. For now I'm just pinning everything on Pinterest.

I did one to keep track of things that I thought I would need, or sometimes things that other moms recommended. I have a private wishlist now on Amazon for my son's toys/entertainment.
OOPS: to answer the question, anytime is okay for a private list. I wouldn't make any list public until at least 24 weeks. People do search for them, I had no idea!

I started mine about 20 weeks, and registered at Babies R US and Target.

I've been adding to a wish list on Amazon UK since about 15 weeks or so. (Did you know that the UK Amazon doesn't have a Baby Registry option!?!) But haven't publicized it yet.
It's hard for us because most people that will want to buy us presents are in the US, so Amazon is our only real option. We used them for our wedding registry and it worked pretty well.

I started one on wishpot way before we even started ttc. I knew that we were going to have kids one way or another & kept reading about all these amazing products on the blogs I keep up with & wanted a way to bookmark them. So I kept it private & then when I got pregnant, I went back through everything I'd save really thoroughly. I made it public at about 14 weeks-ish? Because when we announced to our friends & family, everyone started asking me what we wanted. But I've been constantly revising it since then, ha. It's an addiction.

i started one pretty quickly but kept it private until i figured out exactly what we needed + wanted. i'm glad we started early though because before you know it everyone is asking you about it. and your shower[s] begin. and the baby's here! haha.

I love Amazon's universal wishlist/baby registry. Like everyone says, start one now and keep it private til you're ready to let people know. I still keep a separate wishlist for my LO for items I'd like to get in the future.

I might start one over Christmas. We have some time off then, will be spending time with our families (and I know my mom will want to help)....and I'll be 18 weeks then.

Goodness, I'm not even pregnant yet and I've got like five different private baby registries on amazon. Obsessive? Yes. Prepared? Also yes.

I started pretty early. I just wanted to have time to gather everything together that I liked and have time to research and change things. I did it before I even knew the sex of the baby and just had stuff for both girls and boys and then deleted what I didn't need later on.
I'm a big planner

I'm 25 weeks and have yet to start mine. I've been so busy with the holidays, we plan on starting it in January after the holiday craziness.

Out of Curiosity, thos who HAVE used Amazon. Did you have much luck with it? SOME people are still so fixated on seeing the item and actually going to the store. Like I said....some, or there are those who wait to the last min and go buy it which would not allow time for shipping. Just wondering. Didnt mean to steal away from this thread. Just curious seeing as so many seem to be using Amazon.

FAIL! I just saw the other thread on Amazon Registry! Haha! Sorry! LOL

@crash806: i'm 23 weeks and i finally sorta finished it. since my shower is in a month, i figure i should have it ready haha.
@rescuemom10: i actually have amazon on the list. we'll see if people buy it. what i did was for the big items, i went to buybuybaby to see if i liked it. then if it's cheaper on amazon, i listed it there. amazon does carry things at a cheaper price than the big stores.

I think a little before your shower. Like, my shower is at the end of January, so we will register at the end of December, or beginning of January. I am 28 wks currently. We are just registering at Target.
