I can't believe I'm even writing this....... but we are considering rehoming our dogs.
I just don't have the time to devote to them now we have a LO. They are rarely walked. I just don't have time in the mornings now (daycare drop off then a 25 mile commute) and I barely have the energy after E is in bed. If we take E to the park at weekends, we usually leave the dogs home because you can't take dogs into the children's playground bit..... They STINK. They haven't been bathed in weeks because it takes so long to bath then blow dry two fluffy dogs. They basically live in our utility room 19 hrs per day and, despite having a doggy door into an outdoor run, they have taken to peeing and pooping indoors. I can't blame them - they're never walked! - but I'm so over the smell.
We've looked into rehoming and we know what we need to do...... but....... I can't let my little girl dog go.
I've had her the longest and she's pretty old now. She's my baby.
We only got the other dog as company for her because I had to work from the office more and we didn't want her to be alone. She needs way less exercise (and I could tuck her under my arm at the playground!)..... and perhaps if I only had one dog to bath I could fit it in??
Would it be really cruel to rehome one and keep the other? Is it mean to leave her home alone all day? Should I rehome them as a pair?
That doesn't seem like an improvement. I agree with the previous posters; I personally would hire a dog walker and keep up with grooming on a regular basis. If that really isn't an option, I'd try to rehome them together.
Also I did occasionally wash dogs for people, or do a whole weekend care thing once I was old enough to housesit their places.
