Has anyone replaced a traditional sofa bed mattress with a memory foam or gel mattress? Did it still fold up ok? Worth the investment?
We got a fairly expensive sofa bed a couple years ago and we really dislike the mattress (innerspring base with air mattress on top). Considering replacing but I'm nervous that it won't fold.

We didn't, but we did buy a fancy mattress topper type thing to go on the top. Worked like a charm!

We have a memory foam mattress topper we put on our sofa bed when it's used (which has only been like 1 time lol) - same idea as @LBee mentioned. Stores easily can you can use it on any bed.

@LBee: @yoursilverlining: interesting idea, thanks! My only thing with that - 1) our sleeper sofa mattress has an innerspring layer AND an air mattress layer on top so I think that could make it weird and 2) I live in an NYC apt so...storage...not so much. I really don't want another thing to jam in a closet. But if it folds up super small with minimal effort maybe I could be persuaded.
But something that just folds into our couch would be ideal.
