So this is the first time I have to return an item I've bought on Amazon. Basically I bought some puppy training pads for him, and we bought a smaller sample bag and found out we don't need them (he just shreds them to pieces, won't pee on them!) So I want to return the 150 count box we bought of them.
Well when I go to print the label, it's saying $9.15 will be deducted from my refund because it wasn't a result of their error.
Is this true??? They don't have free returns??

If the item is defective or was damaged in shipping you can return for free... Otherwise only certain items have free return shipping, it specifies when you buy the item.

I've never gotten free returns on Amazon. Although, I haven't returned too much. I usually find that it's cheaper for me to go to the post office and mail it on my own than pay their return shipping.

Ouch can you sell them on craigslist? The puppy pads are also good as a changing pad cover. I had a couple and use them in public restroom changing tables.

@MrsBrewer: yes this happened to me once. They didnt even give me that number of options. I decided not to return it because they were going to take off some money. Did you try "better price available"

sometimes its better to just get rid of the item so its not cluttering your house. I do find the wee wee pads are good for cleaning up spills and doggy accidents

Sorry! I think most baby stuff has free returns, but most other items do not.

@bunnylove08: That's what I was thinking! We have it sitting on our kitchen table, and I'm at the point where if I don't get rid of it and return it, I'm just going to throw them out!

Good to know that if I return some and it's not their fault that I will have to pay.

@MrsBrewer: Yeah, that is pretty steep. Was there and option to self ship, like through USPS instead of UPS? You can probably ship it cheaper through the post office.
I just got a packing slip and label through them (it was their fault) and they gave me different options to return. If I used UPS, I wouldn't have to pay anything. If I shipped through USPS, they would credit me back 5 bucks. I think I can ship it for less than that since the item was delivered smashed into tiny pieces and I can find a small box.

@bluestriped bee: Nope, I only had 2 options to pick from either ship and bring it to a UPS drop off locaion, or schedule a UPS pick up (and pay another $6 on top of the $9) so I just chose the drop off option. I wish I was able to choose shipping it via USPS though. You're right, it probably would have been a lot cheaper. Oh well, though. At least I will be getting some of my money back!

@MrsBrewer: That sucks! You could always call and complain to Amazon. My DH usually has a lot of luck when he actually talks to someone at Amazon. I don't usually have time for that so I just do the website thing.

@bluestriped bee: Interesting! I never thought of doing that! I think I'm going to try doing that on my lunch break tomorrow at work! I mean heck it doesn't hurt to try right? Plus this is the first return I have ever done, and I have like a billion purchases!

I have only returned one thing on Amazon, but it was from a 3rd party vendor and I had to pay to ship it back. It was a rug and after I got it, I realized the size was too small even though I had measured in the room. The vendor was going to make me pay for return shipping AND charge me a 15% restocking fee, but I got out of that thankfully because i ordered the larger size from him. That policy kind of made me mad, but I really did want the larger size so it ended up being a win-win. It wasn't too expensive to mail back either and I didn't have to pay for shipping the items to me.
