Note, RHATL Apollo Nida just started serving an 8 year sentence for a white collar crime too. This was his second offense.

I was really surprised that they are letting her stay home until jan so she can spend the holidays with her family. And that they're not serving their sentences at the same time so one parent can be with their girls.
I've just never really heard of a court making so many allowances based on family. I'm not saying it's good or bad, it just surprised me bc I thought that being convicted of a crime was all that mattered.
I wonder if similar allowances would be made for regular non-celebrity people. Those are just my initial thoughts.

@PrincessBaby: I know there have been a few cases around here where they have made similar allowances for non-celebrities. They were all white collar crimes.

@PrincessBaby: based on similar allowances the Federal court system seems to operate differently. Rep Jesse Jackson and his wife had a similar deal so both could be home with their children.

I think both sentences are fair. I am glad they are both going to prison...I would've been pissed if one or both of them got off with just probation. I also think it's fair that Teresa is serving her sentence before Joe so that one parent can be home with the girls as that's probably what is in their (the girls') best interest.

@PrincessBaby: @Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Yes, I was about to say that this isn't uncommon to have two convicted parents serve at different times to care for minor children. There's a famous domestic violence murder case where they did the same thing before she served her sentence.

I thought Theresa wouldn't go but I'm glad they both are...it's sad that they have children though.

I hate that I still watch this show and it's truly bad but I guess it's one guilty pleasure. What has really pissed me off about this season is how they keep making the two of them out to be the victims. I can't handle all the poor Teresa and Joe. You committed fraud!!!!!

It also sounds like Joe will be deported after he serves his sentence. Those poor little girls of theirs

@PrincessBaby: It's rare for non-celebrities, but it definitely happens. I work in the court system, and a person can always ask during sentencing to turn themselves in at a later date and it is up to the Judge to decide. I had one guy in get 6 months to shut down his business and turn himself in...
