Hi! We've got an 8 hour drive on Saturday. LO is 4 months old. Any tips or advice? We were thinking of leaving early around 5 or so. She sleeps well in the car but I don't want her to sleep the whole time and not sleep at night! Thanks!

Not really sure, but could you stop at least 1-2 times and get LO out into some fresh air or just out of the carseat to wake them up a bit, feed them and let them stretch a bit?

Subscribing! We're driving 12 hours for Christmas. I think we're going to do it overnight.
The longest we've ever driven with LO was 4-5 hours and she was 4.5 months old. She slept about half the time, and we made one stop to nurse and burn off some energy (aka bounce in my lap). That stop was KEY! We found that she does better if no one is in the back seat with her. She will fall asleep much more easily.

I bought a new dangly toy for our first long road trip. We drove the first length, which she slept for most of then after our stop to nurse, stretch, eat, breathe I put that bad boy on the handle of her infant seat and she was more than amused for the hour or two before she fell asleep again. Good luck!

Thanks for the tips! That dangly toy looks great - I'll definitely have to get one. We'll definitely stop a few times and let her stretch out. She's really into rolling now, so I'm sure she'd love that!

@PrettyLizy - what is the name of that toy? I can't seem to find it on Amazon by doing a general search. Thanks much!

@lemong: I bought mine at a consignment store so I don't know the brand. Whoozit makes a spiral toy (though I the only one I found on amazon was like $50!??). Tiny love makes a 'take along toy bar' that would probably work really well. FYI, her favourite thing to do once she grabbed on to one of the dangly guys was to suck on his feet, so for us the plush toys were a bonus. I ran a quick amazon search for car seat toys and found a few good options

@Weagle: Same with C! She is too distracted to sleep is someone is sitting next to her. We just flew from Heathrow to StL and she would hardly sleep because I was right there.

We are driving 8 hours for Christmas too. We plan on leaving at 4pm and stopping at 7pm to feed LO and put him in his pjs, then he should sleep the rest of the drive so we won't have to stop again. I'm going to sit in the back and play with him for the first few hours.

@PrettyLizy - thanks! LO is in the grabbing/put in mouth stage so these will be great!
