I’d say it’s up to your comfort level. I don’t think it’s bad but I was still rocking my baby girl at six. I’m over it now at 7 but I can still be persuaded on very rare occasions. She can fall asleep on her own after reading a book or listening to sleep sounds/music/an audiobook. I’m only over it because we are constantly together and she’s so big now. It was nice to have that time to talk about school we were all out the house more.

If it’s still working for you, I don’t think it’s “bad” at all! ️

We stopped rocking DS to sleep and he just rocked himself to sleep instead. For about a year we'd have to go in before we went to bed and move him from the rocking chair back to bed. But we stopped because he was NOT going to sleep anymore.

I rock my 2 year old DS after we read books but he stopped falling asleep in my arms so I move him to his crib to sleep. We just pulled the pacifier so he is learning how to self soothe without it. We let him cry for a few minutes and then DH goes in to rub his back and settle him then he falls asleep.

Keep rocking if that is working for you! I am holding on to the little bit of snuggles I still get before bed.

My DD is 3.5 and moved to a toddler bed at 3 - I desperately miss those last few minutes of the day sweet snuggles. So keep it up as long as you want, especially because your DS has shown he can put himself back to sleep.

If you do want or when you feel you need to make a change, maybe just start putting him down right before he falls asleep. I always sang, and I always sang the same song last so my DD would know that I would be putting her in the crib. When I first started doing 'drowsy-but-awake' I would put her down in the middle of the song, continue singing while rubbing her back - that way it helped her fall back asleep after the change of arms-to-bed.

Hold on to those snuggles as long as you can.

I have a nearly 2.5 year old who must be rocked to sleep. She sleeps terrible and I can't really let her cry, so, I assume it will always be this way. But with that, I say that if you are enjoying your 10 minute rock to sleep with your guy, keep doing it. I also still rock my big 4 year old a bit to sleep. I rock them both at the same time and have ever since my second was born. So, it works out just fine. My 4 yo is a much better sleeper though so, thank god one of mine is.

@Umbreon: Nah, it's not bad. Occasionally I rock my 4 year old to sleep and wish I'd done it more when she was small.

Whatever works for you! We've never really sleep trained my kids; yes they are still kinda needy and yes I would like more of my night back but we don't REALLY mind and know that this won't last forever. Tho with 3 kids it does feel like forever lol!
