My baby is 2 weeks old and while he will sleep in 2-3 hour stretches in the daytime in his bassinet, at night time, it is a whole different story. Once we lay him down, he will start whimpering/kicking his legs/fussing within 5-10 minutes. I suppose he just likes being held, but I obviously don't want to make this a habit! Supposedly we can't spoil a newborn, right? These past nights, I've fallen asleep upright just holding him, but it's not good for my back to be sitting the entire night! I don't pick him up right away when he starts whimpering. I usually wait until he's more "frustrated", hoping that maybe he will be able to self-soothe to get back to sleep. Is he too young for self-soothing? Should I just pick him up the moment he makes a peep? *Sigh* I'm tired. He's so needy! I'd feel better if I knew all newborns were like this, but I have a feeling he is EXTRA needier than most!
