I saw that over the weekend-- it's totally horrifying, especially that her kids were there with her when it happened. I don't usually worry about safety, especially at someplace like 6 Flags-- you'd think little local parks would be more dangerous.. I haven't been to an amusement park in years and I know my tolerance for roller coasters is much lower than when i was younger. I'm sure they are still safer than driving but it would be hard to get this out of my head while riding one now.

Thats really sad. I worked at Six Flags St Louis for a summer.

But no, I love roller coasters. I dont usually worry about safety since accidents like these are really pretty rare. The odds are like 1 in 300 million or something like that.

This is just so awful, I can't imagine witnessing this. Her poor kids. It's even worse to know that she questioned the safety of her restraints and that she was in a panicked state as the ride took off. What a horrible, horrible tragedy.

This is so sad. I can't imagine how scared she was.

The Texas Giant is one of my favorite roller coasters. I've ridden it a few times. My DH and I love roller coasters. When we go to theme parks we make sure we ride them all. I know it is unlikely that any one else will die from falling out of a ride, but I'm going to be very nervous next time I'm on one.

When I was a teen I was on a ride at Six Flags over Georgia. I think I was too skinny for the harness to be tight enough and I felt like I was going to fall. Ever since then I ask the attendant to press the harness tighter when I get on rides. They can usually get it one notch tighter than I can.

That specific ride does not have the clicking lock mechanism that the witnesses talk about. They are either confused or lying to get on the news. It is a hydraulic one that has a light that turns on when it is properly locked. It sounds like the link mechanism failed mid ride at no fault of the ride operator.

That being said, I feel absolutely terrible for the family! That is never how you expect a trip to a park to go! I am grateful I ride roller coasters right now because it will give me time to get over that fear of it happening to me. My heart breaks for that child that had to him mom die and for the entire family now has to deal with this loss.

I live right by this park and I have to say, it is eerie seeing all the rides shut down. The park is handling it the best way they can from everything I can see though

I have always been very scared of coasters, so this only makes it worse. I cant imagine what her kids are going through now

@Foodnerd81: I really don't know why they do. Most older rides at the park do click and before they redesigned that one it did but since then it doesn't... a good story maybe? I don't know...

@Mrs Hedgehog: Did they close the whole park? I thought just the section w/the TX Giant was closed. We were at the ballpark on Fri. night and saw all the news helicopters circling...so sad. And creepy.

I think it's pretty rare when this happens. I might refrain from going on a ride if it was in the news recently. In general, I'm anxious on rollercoasters only because of the intensity of the ride.

This is my nightmare! I haven't been on a roller coaster in years... I know that the odds of something happening are crazy low, but they still terrify me.
