This is totally hypothetical but I've been wondering what others would do. If we have a #3, DD will be almost 5 and DS will be almost 3. Would it make more sense to have them share a room? Or to put the new baby in with one of them? I feel like having opposite sex siblings share a room won't last very long so wondering if it would be better to put the baby with one of them!

This is our exact situation. Baby #3 is due when DD1 will be 5 and DS will be 2.
For 6 months - we are going to leave them separate and let DS stay in the crib a bit longer. Hopefully by age 2.5 he's ready for a big boy bed.
Then we will move him to DD room which has two twins (really bunk beds that are separated). Plenty of room for play still but most toys will go to the sunroom. We are hoping they can share from ages DD 5/DS 2 through DD 8/DS 5.
Then maybe we can switch and move baby girl (baby #3) who at that point will be 3 and ready for a big bed back in with her older sister. They have a 5 year gap so I'm not sure how long they will be able to share (aka when DD1 is 12, will she want to share a DD2 who will be 7).

We only have two, same sex, and so far the baby is still in our room at 3.5 months. It's starting to get annoying but I can't see putting her in big sisters 2.5 years) room yet. I'm too afraid of them waking each other still. So I think I'd rather have the older ones share at least until the baby is a consistent sleeper.

A friend of mine's two youngest opposite sex siblings shared a room until puberty. I think her siblings are 2 or 3 years apart.
We plan to have three close in age and will have two bedrooms for the kids. I would put the opposite sex siblings in the same room until the baby no longer wakes in MOTN. Then, do a room shuffle. Or keep the bedrooms same sex from the start, but keep the baby in your room if you have the space until you can transition him or her to the appropriate same sex room.

I'd put the older ones together for a year or two, then move baby in with same sex sib.

I shared a room with my brother until he was twelve. It was fine from my perspective. (We lived in a two bedroom apartment, so there just wasn't a lot of room for us anywhere. We definitely only used the bedroom for sleeping.)

I lived in a 2 bedroom house growing up, which meant my brother and I shared till I left for college. My mom did section off the room so we hard our own areas when I started high school though. It may not have been ideal, but it was never an issue.

I would have the older two share for a few years, until the baby is ready for a big bed, then have the younger two share for a few years.
