I do think it's rude to reach out to people prior to the RSVP date. You gave them a date to respond by so you should give them the courtesy of waiting until then.

For all of our events we generally will call after the RSVP date before giving our final headcount. We've set it up to where we have our date 2 weeks out from our "headcount" deadline and then usually call a week after.

With yours being closer I'd probably start making calls a on the Sunday before the deadline... maybe even Saturday just incase you can't get in touch with everyone first round.

I would wait until the RSVP date passes and then contact them. Just a simple, "hey we need a head count, can you come" works.

I'd wait until the day the RSVP is due then follow up with people. That's what I recently did with the hubby's party.

Depending on the relationship I would probably call or email them the day after the RSVP due date. If it is someone I'm not all that close to or rarely shows up to events, I would just count them as a no.

@Adira: I think that is fine. You can just say that your Mom asked you to reach out since she didn't have the number/email.

@Adira: It's really obnoxious of people not to RSVP by the date, so I think you're fine to reach out in any way you want. Personally if I were you, I would contact my friends and ask my DH to contact his family.

Totally not tacky! Maybe you could even get MIL to do the grunt work? I don't think it's gift grabby at all, you just want to know one way or another.

I would try to get my DH to contact them or maybe send a hoping to see you there! tone email to remind them you aren't 100% certain they are coming.
