I like to change mine every 6 months but I just went 9 months without changing them. My new pair feels tight since my old ones were so stretched out!

@IRunForFun: 300 miles! I am more sporadic with how much I run. I get on gym/class kicks and sometimes go a few weeks without running. How often/long do you run?

Not often enough. My current pair is a year and a half old and I desperately need new runners. In my defense, I took a 6 month hiatus after my last miscarriage, so at least they're only a year old??

@winniebee: It depends on if I'm training for something! When I was marathon training I'd change shoes every 3 or 4 months since I was running about 100 miles per month. I'm kind of in a lull right now, running 2 to 4 miles 3x a week, so I've been on the same pair since Christmas.

@winniebee: A good shoe should last between 400 and 600 miles . . . but that depends a lot on your build, running style and training load . . . it's hard to give a more precise range!

@IRunForFun: how many marathons have you done? I trained for Boston about 7 years ago but then developed IT band syndrome so since then have run more casually.

@winniebee: Just 2! I may try to do one more this fall but I'm having trouble finding the motivation right now. IT bands are killer. Do you still have trouble with them?

Just got fitted yesterday, so these are my first pair that I use just for running. The employee said to evaluate around 400 miles.
Also, I had no idea that you are supposed to buy a size up to make room for your feet to swell while running, so my new shoes feel roomy and comfortable!

not often enough. I usually wait until my feet start hurting, and then wait a little longer. I'm cheap. It ends up being once a year, but I should really do it every 6-9 months.

It's hard for me to calculate how many miles i run with my shoes, so i usually estimate it at 3-400 miles or once a year. You have to also remember that the rubber in shoes break down over time. ALso if i start to feel knee pain i usually know it's because of the shoe.
