I've been a total slacker in getting gifts for my hubby for special occasions in the past, so I would like to surprise him for Valentine's. The one thing I think he will love is a running watch, but I have no idea where to start because am definitely not a runner. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks!!

People love the Garmin ones! I know the models update all the time so I'm not sure which specific one.

Garmin is the way to go for sure. There are newer/nicer watches, but the older clunky model forerunner 305 is really great bc it has a huge screen and buttons are easy to hit while running. It's not as attractive, but many runners stick with it cause it's great easy function.
ETA is you want pretty one and spend more I'd go with 310xt

I like it. I think the pace and route tracking are more important for me, I've never used the heart rate monitor. It's big on me, but I usually put it over my shirt sleeve and that helps. On a guy, I think it would be better proportioned. It's pretty user friendly and the menus are intuitive.

Garmin! I have the 305 right now, but if someone was gifting me, I'd totally want the 310!!! It also depends on your price range, though...

And I second (or 5th) the recommendation for a Garmin. I have a Garmin Forerunner 10 and it is perfect for me at the $100 price range and as a casual runner/triathlete. -
@3littlebees: ps. I got my garmin 305 (actually 2, bc I lost once) off eBay, and got great deals. easy to find good one cause a lot of people buy them and fall out of running, and sell barely used watches.
