I've been running 3x a week, and have noticed that my ankles have started to hurt (they've always been weak, since bad sprains in high school). I'm taking today off of running while I re-evaluate what's going on.

I am considering cutting back on the number of days I run, and also just running more slowly. Or perhaps I need to just completely rest my ankles a bit, and stop running (I would still work out with weights at the gym). Or I could buy new shoes.

Any suggestions from runners on what could be causing the pain, and how to handle it?
