They know a lot more this morning. Such a strange and horrifying situation. I can't imagine a motive here. Btw, all guns mentioned by cnn were bought legally.

It makes my heart hurt that these things just keep happening. But if we didn't change anything after a bunch of children were killed, I can't imagine we're going to change anything now.
The best thing that we can do is get out there and VOTE for people who actually will try to change things in our country. Nothing will change with the same sorry group of people in charge...

@travellingbee: I agree, it is very strange. Sounds like the man involved in the attack worked there and was at a holiday party? There was some dispute and he stormed out and then came back later with his wife? But I don't know who has military-grade tactical gear just on hand so maybe somewhat pre-meditated? Although I guess in this country there are people who treat that stuff like playthings so who can really tell. Very strange...

@dagny: One of my friends on Facebook just posted this, with links, with concrete action each of us can do.
1. Contact your US Representatives. Tell them that you want them to take meaningful action against gun violence. Tell them you will not vote for them unless they take an action that is specific and meaningful. Here's a list of some ideas: http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/oct/03/oregon-shooting-aftermath-eight-ways-to-stop-gun-massacres-in-the-us. Here is a link to where you can find your US Representative's contact information: http://www.house.gov/representatives/find/
2. Boycott companies that sell firearms (i.e. Wal-Mart).
3. Boycott companies that support the NRA (either explicitly through donations, or implicitly by serving to expand NRA membership). You can find a list here: http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2013/03/06/1675151/meet-34-corporations-that-help-inflate-the-nras-membership/
4. Donate to an interest group whose mission it is to end gun violence (i.e. The Brady Campaign: http://www.bradycampaign.org). The gun rights lobby has a lot more money, and therefore power, than the gun control lobby. Let's change that.

@Ree723: 2. You point out Walmart but remember, pretty much every big sporting good store sells guns, too. So you'll have to boycott Dick's, Gander Mtn, Cabela's, Bass Pro etc.

@mediagirl: Sorry, I just copied and pasted from my friend's Facebook post. I don't live in the States anymore and haven't for most of the past ten years so I have no idea who sells guns over the counter. Walmart is well known for doing that though so I didn't hesitate to keep the post as it is. I'm sure one could do a bit of research to see which sporting goods stores sell guns responsibly and which are less inclined to do so.

I woke-up to the news this morning. My LO's godmother works close to the shooting. I was sick with worry all day (middle of the night in CA) and she's anti-social media and off the grid. I finally heard they're doing fine, but was on lock-down. All of these random shootings are so, so scary!

What I don't understand is why any company feels it's a good idea to be in the gun business (profits aside, the potential bad press would outweigh it in my mind)...I wish more companies would follow the lead of CVS and stop selling things that are detrimental to public health.
