We are planning our family vacation for this summer, and have decided to go to Savannah, Ga this year. Neither DH nor myself have ever been here. We want to stay somewhere close to downtown, preferably not a chain hotel. All of the B&BS we've seen don't allot children under certain ages. Our children are 8 and will be 18 mos this summer. Any good recommendations on kid friendly lodging?

Have you considered renting a house? We've stayed both at hotels and rented houses in Savannah, but I love renting homes. Also, you could always choose to stay in Tybee if you're interested in the beach, and it's only about a 10 minute drive to downtown. Just another thought since you're making it a family vacation.

We stayed at The Marshall House. It was a historic hotel, not a chain. It was very nice. I'm not sure about staying with children though, since we were single at the time. It was conveniently located so that we could walk pretty much everywhere we wanted to go.

I ditto with @BananaPancakes: I would look into a cottage/house in Tybee. That is what we have done and they are so cute. I can't remember what hotels we have stayed at before. Savannah is really fun!

We stayed at the River Street Inn and loved it. It's a historic hotel (non chain) downtown and, as the name suggests, right on the river. We were kid-free at the time we stayed, but I know there were families there while we were. A quick look at their website shows they have family packages and the like, so it looks like they'd be happy to have little ones. If there are any available, I bet your 8 year old would enjoy the rooms with juliet balconies overlooking the river where you can watch the steamboats go by!

DS was 12 months at the time and the hotel had no problem with that; they provided us with a P&P. The hotel was nice, historic, downtown and affordable. Enjoy your trip!
