We are told so often that bumpers are super dangerous. I held my breath for the first 8 months of L's life because we did use one, but it scared me.

Around 9 months we took them off because he could move his legs and arms well enough to know how to get out of the rails.

Well, last night (he's 1 year now, so we've been sleeping bumperless for a few month with no issue), last night DH and I were sitting on the couch watching tv. I heard L make a peep and, as I always do, popped on the monitor to see if he was still asleep.

At first it looked like he was just trying to get comfy, and then I realised that it looked like his legs were in the rails of the crib.

We went in and sure enough they were both in the rails, but they were stuck. DH tried for a minute to get the one out and couldn't. It was wedged right in and L was now in tears. I ran into the bathroom and grabbed the soap and ran back to his room and squirted it all over his legs. We did manage to free him but just short of DH ripping the bars off the crib.

I am so scared what would have happened if he wouldn't have made that peep or if I wouldn't have checked the monitor, and if the blood had been cut off from his legs for any longer than it was.
