DS is 7 months and when he gets upset he will scratch the back of his head until it is bleeding. It is so sad. Has anyone ever had a similar experience? I don't know what to do to get him to stop. He can take mittens off so that isn't an option. He also has some eczema so I think that's why he's used to scratching as a response.

The only things we have been able to figure out have been to douse the area she's scratching with aquaphor so that if she does scratch, it's at least lubricated; and keeping her nails super short and filing them not only along the tops, but along the surface of the nail at the ends to make them weaker. Does he have a lovey? Ever since she took to her lovey around 7 months, she tends to rub her face in it instead of scratching her ears.

My LO has dealt with this since he was 3 or 4 months old - he would just itch itch itch all night and he'd wake up with oozing patches all over his head. He's never been a huge thumb sucker and wasn't a fan of pacifiers so I think this was his way to soothe himself.
He also has pretty bad eczema so we've tried a lot of different products over the past few months. Things that work best for him are hydrocortisone cream, Mustela newborn shampoo, and also keeping his nails short. I remember one time the patches were oozing really bad and I had him wear his newborn hospital hat (it was really stretchy) all day after I put lotion all over his head!
